I posted in the video section a couple of times but never introduced myself. My names Kenny and I am 20 years old and I live in Silver Spring Maryland which is 5 minutes from Washington D.C.. I am currently an electrical apprentice in the local 26 union and I am doing a 5 year inside wiremans program. My hobbies are of course fish, fishing, anything to do with the water (boating, snorkeling, tubing, swimming etc), paintball, playing xbox, going to parties, and having the most fun in life.
As far as fish go my family has always had fish since I was a kid and I grew up in the Florida Keys around the water all the time. My Dad gave me my first fish tank when I was 13 and I started with 6 Angel fish in a 75 gallon. They eventually started breeding and we seperated the breeding couple and hatched as many babies as we could. We ended up selling the babies locally and did that for almost two years until we had a mishap where my little sister decided to feed the fish one day and she used the whole can of flakes . After that my Dad got into salt water tanks and now he has a 200 gallon, 175 gallon and a 90 gallon all with live coral and various fish. I finally got enough $$ together to buy myself a nice 90 gallon tank and a little 30 gallon. I am eventually going to buy another 90 gallon but I havent decided on what to fish I want to buy yet.
Here are a few pics of my current 90 gallon tank:
(Ignore my friend talking in this video lol)
And another vid:
Its a 90 gallon with 2x Fluval 405's, I used aragonite as a substrate, and I have 6 live amazon swords, 2 Red Tiger Oscars and 2 Convicts.
Well I have two fluval 405's on the 90 right now, I also plan to move the convicts to another tank. I will probably buy like a 125 or something for the oscars and let the convicts stay in the 90. How big do convicts get?
A formal welcome to you.
Nice introduction, i hope my kids catch the fishkeeping vibe too.
Must be great having a hobby you can share with your dad.
I know that's great for i share the hobby with my fishkeeping mom!
I aggree with Nicki's advice.
Although they may not display any aggression (yet), a small tank is gonna be very difficult to keep running with a big bioload.
You and your fish will not regret a bigger tank.
I was luckily given the advice to measure the space i had in my livingroom and go for the biggest tank as possible, for i was warned i'd be upgrading over and over again.
btw what is your kH value?
I was adviced to get aragonite as a substrate for my Green spotted puffer to raise the hardness of my water.
just curious...
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small! Plecofanatic Primitive fish Keeper : Florida Gar OscarFishLover!
