Hi Everyone!

Stumbled on this cool website about a month ago and has been planning for an Oscar ever since.

Started with a tiny 2 gallon tank back in Apr 2010 and ever since then, I've upgraded to two 6 gallon tanks and finally got the time to get a 50g tank for my very own oscar! He's now a puny 3-in long.

Hope mine will grow as big and happy as everyone I've seen on this website!

shaz

Welcome,

Awesome pics. What kind of filter do you have on the back of the 50? That looks interesting.
4xOscars
1xBlood Parrot
2xJDs (pair)
5xClown Loaches
1xPleco

265 Gallons (84x24x30)
36" T5 Light for shading, sunlight effects
300 Gallon rated Living Color wet-dry sump
3L of SeaChem Matrix + Bioballss, ceramic rings etc...
1xIvy for nitrate filtering

I am always looking for better ways to enhance the lives of my babies. Hit me up, let's chat about fish!

it's a sump filter! The left side is where the water slides down like a waterfall... according to the shop owner, the left side can hold small fishes but I like it empty for now for the zen look -_-

Never seen a sump setup on top of the tank.
Very impressive.

Yup, I was surprised to find a sump that's placed on top! Always wanted a sump (instead of a canister). Here's a closer look:

You even posted those pics before i could ask for them.
i drooled all over my keyboard...
I love sumps but mine is hidden away in the cabinet, but i like this very much.
How big is the "empty" chamber?

hehe... glad to show the pics! The empty chamber is about 4.5gallon... I'd say the whole thing is about 8 gallon.

and the top of the tank is covered up completely?
Just to be sure, for we had to many jumping oscars lately...

i'd be tempted to put more filtermedia in the sump, to create a bigger surface for the beneficial bacteria.

looks good, you could really utilize the space in that filter to add lots of biological filtration, it doesn't look like you've got that much at the moment, plenty of mechanical though, although this will also act as biological filtration as well so I suppose at the end of the day, you have got some good filtration on that tank.

i filled the tank to about 43-44gallon... the sump 8g means that it's at least 50g... my room ain't big enough for a bigger main tank
