Dear Oscar Lovers,

I need advise for my Oscar tank (2 tiger oscar). One is 2.5 inch and 3.5 inch. Tank size is 10 gallon tank. Pellets (Excel Red is the brand) are is the regular diet for them. Set up has Water heater, Motor to circulate oxygen inside the tank, Artificial Plant and gravels.

I came across a "tiny worms", very small may be 0.5 millimeter in lenght. i doudbt for a parasite comes from excretion of the fishes.

Advise me in this regard,
Dhana

The only advice I can give you at the moment is get a bigger tank. There is no way on God's 10 gallons is big enough for two Oscars. If you can't get a new tank in the next week or two, please take the Oscars back from where you got them. As they get bigger, you will not be able to maintain good water quality and the fish will suffer. And remember that Oscars grow at an alarming rate.

hi there dhana and welcome

firstly, a 10 gal aquarium is way small to keep oscars in for long.tehy tend to grow really quickly like an inch or so a month.the minimum tank size to house 2 oscar is about 110 gals or bigger.

there staple should be a quality pellet and a variety of fresh and frozen foods(there is a a thread on the site with a good breakdown of foods).

as for the small worms you found perhaps a pic or more in depth description would help in figuring how to deal with them. anyway good luck with your new fish and i hope everything goes well for you
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

Welcome Dhana! First of all get a 100 US Gallon Tank for 2 Oscars! they grow pretty fast, my Tiger is now almost 6" i think they grow more than an inch per month, i have him for 2 months only and he was 3.5" when i bought him!
i can't keep any plant in my tank because Tiger always uproots them and makes a huge mess!
he doesn't eat pellets so i feed him shrimps, prawns, bloodworms and tubifex dried worms.
Good Luck:)
100 US Gallon Tank - 1 Tiger Oscar (Tiger);
1 Common Pleco

30 Gallon Tank - 4 Angels (1 Veil Tail, 1 Albino, 2 Marble)

The little white worms are harmless. They feed on excess food in the tank. Reduce feeding and increase water changes and cleaning will help to get rid of them. However you are going to have trouble getting rid of them as your tank is small and you will always end up excess food in the tank (oscars are messy eaters) and this will result in poor water quality

You need big tanks for oscars because they get massive, a foot long and very thick and deep. If you dont get a bigger tank pronto you will not be able to maintain your water quality and your fish will get ill and eventually die. An oscar in a 55g needs a 50% water change once a week. Test you water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Ammonia and nitrite should be zero, anything above that is poisonous to them. Nitrate needs to be ideally below 20 but definitely below 40

If you cant get at least a 75g tank and are not prepared to do big water changes every week then as OFL says take them back to the shop and get some small community fish
I can't get no sleep
