TOPIC: Hi from Ontario Canada!

Hi from Ontario Canada! 1 year, 8 months ago #112543

I bought a tank and three Oscars came with it. I gave one Oscar to an experienced fish person and am keeping the other two. They are wonderful fish that I am enjoying very much. Just popping in to say: HI!

hi, and welcome to ofl.
What kind of oscars are the ones you've kept?
enjoy the site.

Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

You guys are marvelous - thank you for the warm welcome - here's a vid of my little fishies in their 75g (which is why I gave one away). I kept the stripey guy and the solid one (I believe they are male & female) but I don't know what 'kind' they are. If anyone can tell me, that would be wonderful! I really like these guys - they always come over to see me (or anyone). But they are not great eaters. The orange blotchy guy and the stripey guy seemed to 'fight' once in a while and I believe they were two males. The remaining two do not fight at all.

I'll have to figure out how to post pics on here.

Welcome to our community

Okay, you have a couple of Tiger & one red Oscar. The red Oscar has got one hell of a deformed mouth, has it always been like that? Also, keep an eye on its head, it looks like a little bit of HITH but I can't be sure, maybe it had it and it has already healed.

Now, your tank looks very nice, you've done a really good job. Now we would be neglecting our duty if we didn't point out that keeping these fish long time in a 75 gallon tank is not a good idea. Obviously I don't want to put a damper on things just when you join, but we need to point out these things.

By the way, I can't see your plants lasting very long

I noticed the 'female' has a deformed mouth - it appears she had a split lower lip which healed (somewhat). She does eat fine. I'll keep an eye on the possible HITH on the Tiger but it has not changed at all since I got them.

I got the tank along with the three Oscars about 3 weeks ago. I won't be getting any bigger tank. The three of them have been in the tank for about 2 years according to the previous owner who fed them dogfood (seriously) and other crap stuff. But that's why I gave one away - just no room for the 3 of them. So you're saying I should get rid of another Oscar? Hmmmm, I was thinking of getting rid of both of them and getting one baby O and some tankmates like a JD and either a Firemouth or a Jewel.

Personally I think the plant will last a while longer. It's holding up really well for a fake.

You will ok with 2 oscars in a 75g but it will be a lot of maintainence

It would be easier to keep 1 oscar and a smaller tankmate like a firemouth (6inch fish)
I can't get no sleep

Thanks delboybully. So far the 2 Penguin 350's are doing a good job at keeping the water crystal clear on this tank. I'll see if I can rehome at least one if not both of these big boys and get some smaller fish.
