Hello everyone, thought i'd introduce myself. my name is Adam and i live in Florida. i've never had fish before in my life and i recently bought a 55 gallon fish tank and one look at the Tiger Oscars and i knew i had to get one. Im planning on just getting one because they get so big i am concerned about the width of the tank i bought it says its 13 inches but i measured it and its only 12 inches. im worried that when it becomes full grown it wont be able to turn around . but anywho i have yet to set up my tank and i know i have to cycle it before i put anything in there, im pretty much looking for advice from experienced fish owners

though the foot print is too narrow, if it is indeed 55 gal, your
oscar will be fine with it.... just give the tank an good filtration
turn over and cycle first before adding the fish...

the tank is 48" x 12.5" x 21", and i've been reading alot on cycling the tank so it will be nice and liveable by the time i decide to get any fish

I wouldnt recommend keeping an oscar in a tank of 12.5inches front to back. An oscar can live in that tank but given the size they can get to i would recommend a wider tank

Yeah i've decided to get a Jack Dempsey instead because they dont get as big as Oscars. i might put a convict and a pleco in with him too
