Hi my names jon an live in the uk.
been keeping fish for years and after seeing a oscar in the local aquatic shop i decided to get one.

i know i'm more than likely gonna get slated but its in a 200litre tank, but i am running two yes i said TWO fluval 305 external's and i do a 10% water change every sunday i used to do a 20% but every fortnight but found it was too much of a shock to the fish.

anyway thats pretty much it for now

Hi Jon and welcome...

I just did a quick calculation of your tank volume, and I have a couple questions...

Is he alone in this tank??
And how big is he???
And Did you cycle the tank??

You are over filtered well. And that helps.

The only suggestion I will make is that you change your 10% water change to a 25% water change once a week...

welcome to OFL

Your tank is a little small for 1 oscar. As long as you have no other fish you might, and i mean might be able to keep your oscar in your tank but it will mean lots of water changes, maybe 2 a week. If i were you i would get a bigger tank
I can't get no sleep

Hello and welcome...reckon your tank will suffice for one Oscar with your set up...how does the water change shock the fish? If you put in fresh conditioned water at the right temp it should be OK, all my fishies love water changes. In fact I did an extra one today because it has rained a lot lately and I had heaps of fresh rainwater in the tank. I gave my big Oscars a 50% pwc, slowly adding a bucket of conditioned warm water with rainwater straight from the tank by garden hose. They were pushing each other out of the way to get under the hose! It is quite warm here on the gold coast so the water comes out at probably 20 degrees c anyway. They just loved the fresh stuff and the bubbles and the way it churned up the fresh vacuumed gravel..I swear they were playing in it like little kids. If you have a regular routine it is comfortable for them. I have quite a lot of baby Os who are used to 2 or more pwc per DAY.

It is a great site, with really great people. Cheers...Shaz

i second that, my fish seem to enjoy the waterchanges and allways act happy once they get fresh water.
and that's 50% weekly in my case.
once every 2 weeks will give your fish more of a shock during a waterchange, due to accumulated waste.

ps love your avatar!
