Hello all,
I have to say I love this site what wonderful info you have on the oscar fish, I can say I grew up with a red oscar until an unfortunate accident but my father got me into loving them from reds to albino's but I personally love the Tiger oscars since you can see such color change that goes with their mood.
I have not had fish for many years since my dad passed and I joined the navy but now I am addicted to them. I have three fish tanks a 35 a 55 and a 150. Of course 75 has my boys Frank and Tommy I also have a Pike chichlid, Shovlenose catfish, and Pleco and 2 large drift wood pices and one amazingly enough large plastic plant that the oscars leave alone except when food is around which is a small price to pay for a lil bit of decor, one thing I have noticed and I hear it alot in the forums is they break heaters I have had my boys for almost a year for my big guy Tommy and not a single prob with it only one time something got broke was a thermomter that was when I was cleaning the tank and of course they were a lil upset about the things being moved.
The advice and information you all have provided on this page has saved me countless hours of worry. To my astonishment was just big fish running into things like they do all the time and changing were my drift wood sits fixed that prob real quick,
All in all even with my friends girlfriends all saying Im crazy about how much attention I give my fav fish. I will still love them and care for them.
