Hello, my name is James and I just bought 2 baby Oscars last week. These are my first cichlids and I already love them!

I have one Tiger Oscar that I named "Backup" because he is very shy and whenever anyone walks up to the tank he swims backwards into his hiding spot really quick.

I also have one Red Oscar that I named "Big Red", mostly just cuz he is bigger than Backup. Backup follows him everywhere!

Currently, I have a 10 gallon tank (that you can see over in the Picture section) but I am upgrading to a 90 gallon hopefully next month.

When I upgrade I plan on getting 5 or 6 Silver Dollars (I read they do better in groups of 6+ since they are schooling fish) and also a Pictus Catfish.

i will go check out your pics in a min.. if you plan on getting silver dollar and keeping 2 oscars i would strongly advise getting a bigger tank than 90g..i have a 90g tank with 1 oscar and a large pleco and i would not put that many silver dollars in there. i did look into it as i wanted to keep silver dollars but my tank just is not big enough.. your oscars will grow very fast. i got mine when he was 2 inches and have had him for 5 weeks now and he is over 5 inches allready

Ya i wasn't really sure about it. I was originally just going to get 2 silver dollars but then I read up on them. So i am looking around to see what else I would want to put in with them that would be better for the size tank i'm getting. Unfortunately I just can't afford/have the space for anything bigger.

yeah i dont have the room for a bigger one either other wise i would end up with alot of oscars and plecs lol. my pleco is 12 inches and growing so he takes up alot of room in my tank and there is a albino baby oscar going in my tank today but if my oscar decides to attack it then the albino will be coming back out.

when are you getting your new tank? your oscras will tend to grow faster in a bigger tank and will be alot happier

I am hopefully getting the tank the end of August but it might have to wait until mid-September. Luckily I convinced my dad to pitch in and help me with the initial tank cost and if he gets it together quick enough I will have it by the end of august.

well there are alot of knowlegable people on this site that will answer any questions you have about tank setup and cycleing your new tank...

i have just fed worms to my oscar and he is swimming round the tank with it hanging from his mouth lol... just thought i would add that
