My name is Shiv and I belong from Kolkata, India.
I was into Fish keeping from my early childhood days, but then the hobby was simple, get a tank, fill it up with water and then put some fishes, feed them regularly and enjoy watching them. Fishes used to die more often and I used to conclude that they are not good and hence they die
Never paid much attention to other possible causes.
As the days went by, i got more engrossed into studies, careers etc and due to lack of involvement, my mother gave away the tank(i had two at that point of time) to some of her friends.
Two years back, on an assignment, I was in US, and in one of the restaurants in Florida, I saw a huge fish... velvet body and extremely majestic, it was almost 11 inches in size, the restaurant guy told me thats called "OSCAR".... THAT'S it and that was the puch which was required...
I was mesmerized, and decided, once I come back to India, I am going to start with the Aquatic world once again...
I came back here, 1 year before and then started my readings, research, talking to people etc etc.. More I look into these creatures, more I was confirmed, that OSCARs are something, I ought to have.. As it says "Beauty lies in the eyes of the Beholder".... I have never seen anything as majestic as an OSCAR..
But as I have also realized, this thing requires care and attention, so in addition to the little I know, I have become a member of this site, so that I do not make any mistakes in keeping them...
Now let me tell you about the inventory I have
Currently I have a 4 feet(48in X 15in X 18in) tank, and on the verge of getting another 5 feet tank.. ( i would get that within 2 days...). the glass is 12 mm in thickness, with 2 UG filters, 1 Corner filter and 1 power fiter.
Right now I am heavily heavily overstocked...I know and thats the reason waiting desperately to get that 5 feet. Also in near future I would give away the 3 feet tank and I would upgrade that to a 6 footer.
Fishes Inventory
I have 10 Oscars (all babies now, the biggest one is 2.5 inches as of today)
1 Black Tiger Oscar, 4 Velvet Oscar, 4 Albino Copper Oscar and 2 Pure Albino Oscar
4 Clown Loaches and 2 Blood Parrots...
I know, this is too much of stocking, so waiting for the 5 footer and then would upgrade the 4 footer to a six footer...
My biggest problem now is I cannot resist a good looking

OSCAR
Right now, they are thriving on Bloodworms and Tetra Bits.. I am planning to culture live tubifex worms in my home.. If anyone has ever done this successfully, please let me know the procedure..
Since all my oscars are babies, so now they are going fine with Clown and Parrot... but I guess I need to move the Parrots out somewhere, they have become vey skittish these days...
My tank substrate is a mixture of Sand and Gravel, with some artificial plants and a bog wood, to give hiding spaces for the parrots as of now...
Would update as I go further and would take suggestions, before I decide on anything..
