Hello all from Omaha, NE USA!

I've been a keeper of Discus, Angels etc. (S. Americans mostly)for quite some time. I've been breeding angels mostly - and some cory cats.

I've always admired Oscars, but needed my tank space for breeding, so I never got one. The new job is going to nix the breeding, so now I have room for an Oscar!

A few days ago I was at one of the LFS's who buy my angels when I saw a tank of six baby Oscars just over 1" - 3 Red and 3 Albino Tigers. I always thought that I'd wind up with a Red Tiger. And since most albino fish creep me out, I was surprised that the one I really fell for was an Albino Tiger.

I've been enjoying watching him come out of his shell...peeking around rocks at me...getting used to us and his new home. I know it's cliche, but it really is more like a new puppy getting used to a new home. Angels are friendly, but more in a hyper "feed me, dammit" kind of way. This guy is sooo cool. I don't know if the pics show it, but he (she) has a red stripe on the dorsal fin & tail. Oh...we named him Chowder.

I look forward to posting with you all. Here are some pics of my new little (for now) buddy...

Welcome to the site. Cute fish you got there. I'll look into the image problem

Chowder is adorable! Enjoy him/her every spare moment you have - I did not think it is possible to get attached to any kind of fish as to the Oscar (I'm a cat lover..) I had 2 baby blues - sadly they died due to my incompetence and not properly knowing what to do, but I'm getting there. Congrats with your beautiful buy

Thanks Elsabe.

I am enjoying him. He's a riot. In fact, I just pulled myself away from the tank to get some sleep. Yesterday, I felt horrible - he was just warming up to us & coming to the glass. So I was feeding him small bits of pellets when I stood up too fast and whacked my head on the stand. He spent the next few hours hiding & peeking at me from behind a rock. All better today though. I thought his first water change would freak him out, but he was a trooper - even curious about it.

It is exactly what happened to me and my 2 tiger newcomers - a bit bigger than yours. Just as I thought they are eating out of my hand - bang! They shy away for a few hours.. now I discovered that they can't resist the bloodworms. When they start to hide away, I take 2 small blocks of frozen bloodworm and leave it close to them - believe me, they forget about any hiding place immediately. They're also not too much bothered about the cleaning process
