Hello from Greendale, Wisconsin.

My name is Josh and I finally had gotten my Oscars (2)

One is a Red Oscar and one doesn't know what color it wants to be yet... It's sorta inbetween a Red and Tiger Oscar... When the light is on you can sorta see the Tiger markings on the head and tail while the mid section is a light red. When I turn the light off it is darker than the Red.
The are both about 4 inches long and their tank mates are Jack Dempsies that are equal in size.

I obtained the 2 Oscars from a pet shop that was going to flush/ drown them cause they simpley didnt want them... I got the both for $5.00(usa)and the Jacks for $2.00 a piece.

I currently run a 55L that I got for free with stand, I just had to buy the hood and lights, everything else I had left over/ extra. I currently have a 20H.

I got into Oscars when I was a kid when my Dad had a 150L setup. 1 Tiger and 1 Red. I could hand feed them and pet them, their take mates were a Red Devil, Basic Pleco and a Jack. Both Oscars got to 12" but one day the water quality went bad, the Pleco jumped out and killed itself, the Red Devil lost bouancy(sp?) the Red Oscar laid on the bottom and had some sort of fungus collecting on it. My dad being a previous Oscar breeder tried everything to save the it but it was to far along and died as also the Devil.

The other Oscar was put in another tank that was already cycled along with the Jack and that water was medicated.
A couple days later the Oscar was dead probably from stress.
The Jack lived to 13 years old, it would have lived longer if someone my Dad paid to feed him everyday would have done so. (we were on vacation)

2- 5.5\" Jack Dempsies

Awsome! What part of WI?

Can you give me a little advice what I can put in my tank for decoration/ hiding places?
I currently am using Slate and some broken potter but I one hiding place.

Btw: I just puchased a Pictus Catfish that is 2 inches bigger than the O's and Jack's. and hes the boss of the tank now, there is no aggression though.

Large pieces of Driftwood always looked nice, and make very good hiding places for fish, quite natural actually, there'll be lots sold submerged wood where they come from. Either that, or just some might rock that you can arrange.

Thanks, now I just have to find some large enough pieces..

I have a HOB filter and it isnt doing nothing for the tank really, any idea for a good canister filter that wont break me? $130.00(us) max is all I can spend.

Nice to meet you! It's terrible that the store would flush them, but at least they were saved.
