Wife wants fish, wife buys fish, wife is clueless on what she actually aquired...So here I am.

Jared is the name and researching for these unfortunate fishies has been the game for a month now. Poor things are stressing me out not caring for them appropriately. Rosko my albino and Os-Kar the wifes tiger are our 2. My wife Karla has enjoyed watching me jump thru hoops for her impulse buy. Not realizing the commitment of course. Must admit I dig my fishy but unfortunate for them to have us for owners

Gonna abuse this websight ina big way !!

Hi Preemo, welcome aboard.

What size are your Oscars?
What tank size do you keep them in?
What are your water parameters readings?

You'll find plenty of useful info here. Please read the articles published in this site. Ask as many questions as you need to, we all learn from each other.

My oscars are 3-3.5 inches, I have them ina temporary tank which is 50 gallon is all. Theres to much gravel, plants, shells, etc etc. So gonna change it all out probably this weekend. It freaks them poor fish out though, which is understandable. When I get the 125+ tank hopefully they will be used to sudden change by then. As for water parameters not exactly sure what ya mean. I made a mini pooper scooper kinda deal to get the big stuff out every few dayz. I rotate 20-30% of the water out weekly

2 Oscars
2 streetsweepers (cory cats I think)
1 pleco

One of the most important parts of fish keeping is to test your water.(water parameters = results of test) Without the info you get from a test its a bit like running a car without a fuel gauge. sooner or later you will have a problem and have no idea why. 70% of the time its the water condition and can be provented if you know what is going on with the water. you will need a full test kit that costs £20. this will cover ammonia, nitrites, nitrates,PH. liquid test kits are best. I wrote a review you might want to read in the "reviews".

Welcome to the site and the 50 gallon is actually not too bad of a tank for 2 oscars but,a 100-120 gallon will be best or a 90 gallon too.I would go buy a freshwater test kit they are usually cheap to good priced and a heater too.Plus get a filter that's double the gallon size since these fish are BIG POOPPER MACHINES!!!! You will be fine just picking the crap up by hand instead of a made one it won't hurt you! LOL....I have a 120 gallon tank with two oscars and some other fish that are not bite size for them to eat.I also have a 55 gallon with 2 Oscars as well with plenty of room to move around in though too,the 55 has a Tiger and a Albino which are getting along fine. The big tank has about 10 fish including the Oscars so things are good there, just ask away and we are all here to help you out
