Hi everyone,

I just joined (after reading posts for several days) and wanted to start off by saying "thanks" for all the information on this site.

I'm relatively new to keeping fish. I had them when I was younger & up until my years in college, but stopped keeping them for a long time (I'm not even sure why), but I've been thinking for the past couple of years that I missed having them and I'd like to start again. Every time I go to the local pet store to get dog food, I always manage to wander through the fish section and look them all over. Well, last week I was in there and I did something that I probably shouldn't have done...I bought an Oscar on impulse. I walked through the section and this 4" albino Oscar was at the front of the tank and watched me go by and "followed" me to the end of the tank. As I walked by his tank again he "followed" me again & seemed to be watching. I thought to myself that if I was ever going to get back into keeping fish, I was going to start off with this little fellow.

So, having no tank or supplies I paid for him & asked them to "fish sitt" for me for a week. I came back the next day and purchased a 55 gallon tank, stand, hood, etc. I came home and set it all up with a few plants, etc...and brought him home today.

So far he's doing great...swimming all over and already eating well.

I realize that I'll need a bigger tank pretty soon (especially if I decide to add a second Oscar like I hope to do), but I hope this one will be ok for a few months. I'm hoping to get a 90 or 125 gallon tank by the end of the year.

So, I hope I don't ask too many stupid questions over the coming weeks & months. If I do, please bear with me! LOL

Again, thanks to whomever runs this site. It's really well put-together and everyone seems very helpful and like they know they're stuff. My other passion is keeping parrots and I run a pretty large site for parrot & pet bird lovers so I know a little about what it takes to keep a site like this going. Good job!
Thanks!

Joey

welcome to the site joey

i hope you keep an eye on your water parameters if you have only had your tank set up for one week. that is not enough time to properly cycle a tank. i would recoommend testing your water every 2 days and if you get any readings for ammonia or nitrites to start a regiment of 30% water changes every other day to keep things in check,.

best of luck and hope you enjoy your new wet pet
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

my goal is simple a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all
