I'm new to this of course. That's why I'm here... and I'm so glad this exists...

I have a funny fish story:

When mine were still mini (ie: <5 inches), the tank contained 2-3 plastic plants, a hiding place and a small glass cup, which they used to sometimes sit in... It was very cute. Once they could no longer fit in it though, they, of course uprooted the plastic plants. The one's I had were not weighted and thus floated. They left just a few pebbles in the base of the plant this particular day and so it floated in the middle of the tank. It was a busy day, so I left it. The next morning, the plant was in the cup and they had filled it with pebbles... They made themselves a potted plant.

welcome to the site!
oscar do move everything inside the tanks. they uprooted
plants, break thermometer, bulldoze the substrates, etc, etc.
once the plants were uprooted, they will hang around in those
floating plants. when moving substrate, they usually have one
direction of throwing the substrate, thus, if it happen to be
in the suction line of your pump, you will be in trouble in not
check immediately (clogged pump)

if i may ask, how big is your tank?
what filtering pump do you have?
you may or may not answer those question.

My tank is 37 gal right now. I know I will have to get a bigger one but at this point, they have only been with me 4 or 5 months and are 7 inches long. I also have a pleco, I'd say also 7 inches.

welcome to the site.
you made a need a bigger tank quicker than you think,
have you got 2 oscars both around 7 inches and a pleco which is 7 inches.
if so, your oscars will start to stunt their growth until their in a bigger tank, i have just recently put my 2 4inch oscars into a 136 gallon tank and have noticed already they are growing alot quicker.
its amazing how quick these guys grow.
i would seriously look into getting a bigger tank mate.
