Hi, I am new here and really want an Oscar. My question is if I can have more than 1 Oscar to a tank? Also what if I get a small Oscar about 2 inches long, right now, how big of a tank do I need to start with? Also I am interested to know what do I put in the tank to clean it from algea and the bottom, something the Oscar won't eat.
I appreciate all the info you can give me.

Thank you and I am glad to be here. I am doing all this before I get one.

Thank you. I don't have a tank yet, just getting info for now. However I do have afriend that has a 30 gal. tank she said I could have. So I am thinking going that way for now. It has outside pump, top and stones and a few decorations. The fish I looked at was about 2 inches long right now.
Thank you for any input.

welcome to the site.

how long will it be before you get your large tank? Remember that Oscars do grow very quickly so if you get a small tank, you won't be able to keep the Oscar in it for that long. You've also got to think about cycling the tank. I wouldn't advise you do it with a new Oscar. I will advise you to buy various smaller fish such as guppies and tetras. Once the tank and cycled, then get your Oscar. Then you could do the same when you get your larger tank, cycle it and the transfer the Oscar from the smaller tank.

tank cycling is the conditioning of water in the tank before
introducing the fish in it. at the upper right corner of the
screen, you will find helpful articles... click it and you will
find a topic on tank cycling.....

cycling a tank is the process of growing a beneficial bacteria colony in your filtration system to deal with the harmful toxin that are a natural by product of fish. i have attached a link to help you understand the nitogen cycle and how to set up your tank to safely house your fish.
