im adopting 2 oscars that are roughly 2 years old each from someone that has to move. Im gonna have them in my 30 gallon tank for a while till i get my 55 gallon back. I was wondering if anyone has 2 oscars that are ( full ) grown in a 29 gallon tank. This is only temporary. Thanks much

Welcome to OFL

A 55 gallon tank is only big enough for 1 oscar, let alone 2.
and i wouldn't put 2 in a 33 gallon end of.
if your going to adopt these fish, i suggest you invest in a least 110 gallon for the sake of the oscars.
2 Tiger Oscars, 1 Lutino Oscar, 1 Jack Dempsey, 3 Clown Loaches, 1 Blue Phantom Pleco.

welcome to the site

unfortunatly 2 oscars will require a tank in the 110 gallon range. even a temp set up with a 30 just will not do. the amount of work involved to maintain the water parameter, if it even can be done, is simply too much. imho you should only take one of the oscars unless you can provide an adequate tank and filtration for 2.

just my 10 cents

Welcome to ofl

How big are the Oscars? I don't know anybody on here who keeps Oscars in a 30 gallon tank. It wouldn't be possible to keep the water in good condition if you were to keep two large Oscars in a tank of this size. What type of filter have you got? I really think you can have serious water quality problems if the fish are quite big. I'm trying not to rain on your parade, but I've got to be honest with you. Obviously the 55 gallon will improve things, but not by much if you are still going to keep two large Oscars. If I was you, I would seriously consider trying to find another home for one of the other Oscars. Also, if you intend on keeping Oscars, I think you should invest in an external canister filter, preferably one that is rated more than your tank.

Anyway, we are here to help so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask

if this is your situation i would recommend getting a big(i really mean big) cannister and start running it now along with whatever fiter you presently have. and when you say your getting a 175 in march i hope it is early in the month like the fisrt week. if you do decide on trying to keep both oscars in a 30 short term i recommend a water testing kit and regular(every second day) water changes to keep the water in check. if you dont think you will get the larger tank early enough in the month then perhaps you should re think the oscar rescue idea a little.

unfortunetly you are right. it would probably be better for the oscars in the long run. having said that you might find that most central and south american cichlids will require a tank larger that 30 gallons. unless you look to dwarf species. im sure a 30 would be big enough for some german rams or something similar in size.

whatever you decide to do keep us posted on your stocking.

2 years old oscar should be within 12 to 14 inches long.
if not, then they had suffered enough in a prison cell.
since only 2 weeks before march, perhaps, they could survive
in that 29 gal tank as long as you give dedication on water
change and feed sparingly. but that is another 2 weeks torture
for the oscar.

what will happen to its existing tank? are they not included
in the deal. if you have a rubbermaid container, you can consider
that also for the meantime as another tank.

for the new tank, i suggest you go not less than 110 gal size. if
you can not, let somebody who could get decent tank size take them.
