Hello , i am just saying hello to all those who enjoy there fish tanks , i am just setting up a new tank to bring on an oscar and a few friends , with the intent of building a new bigger tank in a years or so time dependent on the growth of the fish , and convincing my wife to let me throw away her unit that the tank will be situated on for now and replace it with a stand for a 4x3x2 tank which i can fit in to the gap nicely unlike the 3x2x18" that i am in the process of making .
I am a bit unsure of the best filter to use as everyone has an opinion , i like the look of the 405 fluval , ease of cleaning etc , and the eheim 2217 as it looks simple but effective , then there are the tetratec 's , what do i do ? any suggestions ?
enough waffle for now .
Tim

Welcome to OFL

I haven't done the calculations, but a 405 will be just about enough for your tank. I think it would be wise if you increase your filtration if you intend on keeping Oscars. Believe me these guys are incredibly messy fish and if you don't have enough filtration you're going to run into water quality problems. I would always plenty of filtration when keeping Oscars. I have got two large canister filters running on my 125 gallon tank and even they become quite dirty after awhile
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

welcome tto the site

your 4x3x2 tank works out to be about 150 imp gallons. for a tank this size i would recommend 2 fluval 405 or one fx5 to handle the filter needs for the life of your oscars.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

i suggest you run two equal capacity filter so that you can
clean one at a time without compromising the the good bacteria
colony. moreover, if one goes down, you have back up to sustain
filtration of your tank.
