Hi there, welcome to our little community. The best advice any Oscar fish keeper will give you is to provide the Oscar with a good home that they can thrive in. This consists of an aquarium that is big enough, and filtration that is adequate enough to remove all the toxins that these large cichlids will produce. So you're looking at over 100 gallons for a couple of Oscars, plus the filtration to match. Firstly, I would congratulate you for trying to help, it shows that you have compassion for animals. On the other hand, if you are not able to provide them with a home that is suitable then it's basically out of the fire and into the frying pan. Please don't take that as any kind of criticism, it's just the way it is.

If you tell us exactly how you are keeping these fish then we can give you further advice on my you need to go from here

I may not always be right, but I am always the BOSS :-)

Hello and welcome to OFL. As indicated, giving us as much detail as possible about your equipment and fish will make it easier to advise on a positive path forward

Thanks vinny if anyone has I phone I could send them straight through as my oscars need sexing and the one that I assume is the female had some damage to her one side due to previous neglect but is healing fast under me and partners care :)

Can you give a detail or two on what this specialist Oscar food is? Eating some of the pleco food is actually good for Oscars. Omnivorous cichlids need a good portion of veg based food. I also have a fairly large Sailfin. Its the messiest fish I own, and I have quite a few cichlids over a foot long. Keeping one of these swimming garbage cans makes for more water changes and substrate vacs. They are a cool plec, but they just kill water quality.

And they no longer need sexing as I have found out they are very hard to tell apart I am just going with the way they act from previous encounters with fish showing dominant behaviour over the females and tail twitching behaviour lol
