Hey all!
I have a problem. I have 2 oscars in a 55gal. This was a full setup that was given to me a couple months ago. I am having trouble with one Oscar. It is staying at the bottom not eating and breathing faster than normal. Sometimes will be on its side at the bottom also. I have tested for ph, nitrates, nitrites and ammonia. All came back good besides oh was at 7.6 what I read online that anything under 8 is ok. But I did a 15 gallon water change this afternoon just incase. Fish is still acting the same . My other one is acting normal and eating. What else can I do?

any sign of bullying? scrape at the body is one thing to look at...

fine water parameters means nothing to us... we need data...
ammonia = ? nitrite =? nitrate=? temp=?

I will give the more specific numbers when I get home from work. I don't remember exactly. I just know they where in range. The sick one does have some white color on its fin and around its mouth. I have noticed it normally but the healthy Oscar does not. I will take a photo of the fish also.

If you have another tank you could try putting the sick one in it. Kind of like a hospital tank. Then do water changes everyday. If not, then I would at least do 50 percent water changes everyday just to be on the safe side.

Update- Fish is doing better. He is swimming around but not as fast as he usually does. Also still not eating. This is day 4 of not eating. I will do another water change today when I get off of work. I will do 50% this time. I took tests this morning on the tank and these are the results. When I did the last water change I added some aquasafe to the tank. not sure if that helped. I read online that the blackwater product will help also keep vitamins in the water and keep it healthier for the fish. Is this true? Is the water too cold? Do I need a heater? I have to go to the fish store today anyway to get food so I can buy one. Also the food I use is the frozen brine shrimp squares. The previous owner used that and said he never had any problems with the fish. Just trying to give you all everything I know to help me fix this fix before he dies. Thanks again everyone has been very helpful already.
PH- 7.6
Ammonia-0ppm
Nitrite-0ppm
Nitrate-0ppm
Temp-70 f

Tank water should be above 73F, so yes you need a heater. Oscars are found in waters ranging from 73f-93f.

Adding a blackwater supplement won't do much. To get the benefits of blackwater, you need to filter the water through peat.

Could the colder water be a problem for just 1 fish?
