WhoIsOscar created the topic: Hole in head?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but I just recently noticed some pitting and lesions on one of my oscars. I immediately tested the water and ammonia and nitrite tested 0 and nitrate was about 10ppm. I have never had this issue and I am pretty worried, what is the next step?

Hello and welcome to the site. Huge help if we can see some pics of your fish. Also some more detail. What did you use to test water? Size of tank, filtration and regular water change sched? Water issues are most often the cause of hith, but not always.

Currently I have 2 oscars in a 60 gallon tank (the 125 gallon is currently cycling) but I have an aqua clear 70g and a whisper 60g hang in back filter, doing water changes every week and a half. I'm on mobile so I'm not sure how to attach a picture

a picture could help us help you on this.
with those water parameters, i can not see any problem....
perhaps your fish had an accident or just a sensory pit

ok, bigger tank and more filters coming is good, and long overdue. Clean up the water, its impossible to have 10 nitrate with those fish in that tank and a 10 day water change interval. Give them 50% every 2-3 days. If you add your current filters to the 125, cycle will jump start and fish can go right in. What filters are on the 125?

You don't think I should let the tank cycle? I'll attach pictures of the fish when I get home

Also I keep their diet varied feeding a new life spectrum float pellet and frozen krill and bloodworms are the main things I feed them. I tested the water right after water changing with a liquid API test

Please dont take this the wrong way, we have just met so to speak, but I'm not sure if you completely understand the nitrogen cycle and how it works in the aquarium. Please explain what you are doing with the 125, and again, what filtration is on it?

I just put some black skirt tetras in the 125 to start the ammonia nitrite cycle for about a month and it has a fluval 406 canister and an aquaclear 110

With the fact that your beneficial bacteria is in filter bio media, you can take both filters from the 60, put on the 125 and add Oscars right away. Some tetras do not have enough bioload to fully seed the 110 or 406, but taking some media out of the 60 filters, distributing into the other filters will speed things up. Monitor water daily using a liquid test kit, change enough water as necessary to maintain safe levels. Your Oscars need to get out of the 60 asap. Still would like to see some pics of the fish.
