solution to your problem can best be addressed after a few question for you. firstly how big is your aquarium? are there any other fish in besides the oscars? what type of filtration do you have? and lastly what are the water parameters in the tank(ammonia nitrate nitrite and temp) ?

after you get us these answers we can better help with your dilema.

I'm sorry to have to break this to you but all 17 year olds know everything and their parents know very little if anything. Things will go back to normal when he has a child of his own then you will once again be the person that knows everything
If you can't beat them...arrange to have them beaten!

How often do you do water changes? You need test strips or better yet a liquid water testing kit so you know when the water is dangerous to them. The strips are cheap but not as good, a liquid kit is around 50.00 depending on where you are.

i try to change the water but son gets mad and tells me "thats what makes the water go bad" I clean it about 25% every two mouths.I've had fish before and do know some what to do with them.

Do a 50% water change now!!!! And then go and get a Liquid water test kit asap. so you know when the water is bad... 2 oscars in a 55gal tank, that water should be changed about once every 4 days or so.
