Hello. Names Jay from Lake Charles Louisiana. I got started about a year ago with a 55 gallon tank and 3 red tail sharks. Being new and dumb, i bought a baby tiger oscar and named him Dozer. As soon as he could, he ate 2 of the 3 lil sharks. Before he got too big, I bought another baby O. The sign on the tank at the pet store said "albino tiger oscar". His eyes werent bright red, and he did have some coloring down his sides, so I wasnt sure about the whole albino thing. I just thought a black oscar and a white one together would be cool. Named him Lil Joe. He grew fast, stood his ground against the bigger O, and made a great tank mate.
As you can imagine, that 55 gal got crowded quick. Dozer developed minor HITH issues a few months ago. I think it was from either stress due to small tank and overcrowding, charcoal in filter, or lack of nutritous diet. He was fed plenty, but it was strictly Hikari cichlid gold, because the girl at the pet store said that was all they needed. I managed to keep really great water quality with 1 aquaclear 110 and lots of water changes. I recently added another aquaclear 110, and took the charcoal out of both of them.
I looked for deals on used larger tanks for a while. Everything just seemed overpriced, damaged, or too fay away. Finally I called a custom aquarium shop and had them build a 4x2x2. Took a few weeks to get it, so while I was waiting I built a super sturdy stand that could support an elephant or two.
Tank was delivered Oct 3. Since I live in a mobile home, I supported floor joices with concrete blocks and shims before I filled it. Tank was then filled, everything transferred, including both filters. Floor didnt shift or sag even a millimeter. Dont let anyone say a 120 gal is impossible in a mobile home. All 3 fish seem to be doing well. Dozer now enjoys plenty of earthworms, bloodworms, and grubs. Named the shark John Wayne cuz hes gotta be a cowboy to survive with these guys. Tanks still a little bare. I want to add live plants, and a few medium size rocks.
This forum has been very helpful. Wish I would have found it sooner. Just within the last week ive posted 12 questions, and have received really helpful feedback. Heres a few pics of new tank and fish. Better ones soon!!!
