Hello, My name is Jacob and I have been keeping a variety of different fish for about five years. I just this morning bought a juvenile (2-3") Albino Oscar and decided I should join an Oscar forum. The O was introduced to my 55 gallon tank earlier...this tank already contained 5 cory cats, 1 pleco, 2 Weather Loaches and 1 Gold Gourami.

Anyway... I just wanted to say Hi to the new community

Give me advice...That is why I am here.

The name is "The Curious"...'cause that is what I am...hehe

My Gold Gourami is 4.5 inches, my Pleco is about 3 inches, and the New Oscar is about 3 inches.

At the moment the Gold Gourami is bigger...obviously...than the Oscar, and she is very interested in the addition to the tank. She keeps hovering right over the O and feeling him up with her antenna-like feelers. It is going to be interesting observing how their interactions will change as the Oscar becomes the larger fish.

What type of Pleco have you got. I'm going to be perfectly honest with you, your tank is rather too small for all the Tankmates you've got, at the moment, all of the fish are small, but remember, you have two fish that have the potential to get in excess of 12 inches, even your gourami may be the type that get quite big. Pleco's are very messy creatures indeed, if indeed you have got something like a common, or a Sailfin, that will get very big and you will have a hard time keeping your water in good condition.

For me combining Oscar with other fish has always worked for me, as i introduced all fish as babys into the tank.
They can grow up together and I never have any aggression issues.
Mind you I got a bit bigger tank than a 55.

You made a great choice, Oscar's are wonderful fish. Very entertaining with some very personable characteristics. Your Oscar should be ok for now, providing adequate filtration is provided. Definitly look into a tank upgrade in the next few months. Keep the fish happy and healthy. I also have a 55 gal to which I home one Oscar (Leo) and nothing else. Now when I get back from Afghanistan I am upgrading to a 100+ set up. Then maybe a few tank mates. You may want to consider an Oscar only tank or upgrade in the near future. I am glad to see you are curious you will learn so much here. Looking forward to sharing your experience with you!

lol in a couple years dont find yourself surprised when your gourami is gone and your oscar is looking suspiciously fat and well fed. mine lived with 3 gold gourami's for a long time... then he got bigger lol.

you can see them in there lol.... they are no longer in my tank... and i didnt remove them lol. you may be surprised by what an oscar can get in its mouth.
