Hello and welcome to OFL... This is a great source for all oscar info..

And I would buy that set up in a heart beat. You can do 1 oscar and some cool tank mates.

Or you can do 2 Oscars

Re:newbie 2 years, 5 months ago #62683

I hear two oscars will constantly fight. One oscar and Tank mates sounds great. Although Oscars do have individual personalities and your two might not quarrel at all. Or they could bully each other. The $300 for a 125 is quite a steal. Keep in mind the cost of an effective filtration system. Gravel and decor. Yes make sure it's cycled properly. I Know you'll be excited to home some fish right away, however you need to ensure everything is provided and set up for properly. Oscar's can live extraordinarily long lives, so be prepared. Welcome, all the advice and information you require should be found here. Or some of the very experienced veteran members will surly assist you. Welcome Paul!

Oh boy you have great tank mate options. Yes I would cycle the tank, and then start the fish at the same time.

Here is a thread to some tank mate Options

If the tank and filter are empty, it will take about 50 days. and you can read how to cycle a tank on the home page.
If the tank and filter are running now, you will be set to go as soon as you move them home, providing you don't shut the filter off for too long!

welcom to ofl mate

heres a thread on aquarium sizes and weights.
www.oscarfishlover.com/oscar-fish-advice...-facts-sizes-weights

How many tank mates would depend on the type(and size) of the fish.. Larger Cichlids can be very messy so you wouldnt want to over stock with to many them. On the other hand if you get a couple of medium sized ones you might end up with a breeding pair and your oscar might be bullied. its trail and error for everyone i guess. What works for you might not work for me.

You could have a small school of silver dollahs, alot of people here have them and will attest that they are beautiful fish to have in the home aquarium.

If i was looking at a pair of Oscars I would get 4-6 of them as babies and wait for them to pair and keep the pair you like; re-homing the rest. LFS might take em' back after this if your lucky. You'd have better chance of avoiding aggression later on this way.
