Hey members,

My name is Jacky and i am 17 from Melbourne Australia. I just bought an Ablino tiger Oscar yesterdat which is about 1 inch in his own tank along with a guppy that i am going to get rid of before he eats it lol. I am a Tropheus breeder here of Moliro, Duboisis and Ikolas. Just thoguht i would try an Oscar after i got rid of my L168s last night because i've never kept a big fish before. Just wondering should i get another Oscar for my little Albino tiger in my 30gal.... He is eating but always lays in the bottom of the tank, eating things that sinks.

see you guys around,

Jacky

Hi Jacky and welcome. Your new little O will need a little time to get comfortable in his/her new surroundings. Give it a few days and he/she will probably perk up and stop clinging to the bottom of the tank.

I wouldn't add a second O to a 30 gal in fact it won't be long before the 30 is too small for the one O. They grow very fast about an inch a month till they hit 9 or 10". They are also quite messy fish and can send your nitrates off the chart in a heartbeat. Rule of thumb for O's is 55gal for one and 25gal more for each additional O. Some say a 75gal is good for two myself I would recommend no smaller than a 90gal for two O's.

Good luck with your new fish would love to see a picture they are so cute at that size.

I think their beautiful fish no matter what size but when their small their sooo cute kind of like a kitten before it turns into a cat or a puppy before it becomes a dog.

Makes me want to go out and get another little one. Ya they get big pretty fast. Got mine at 1" last March and he's at 9" now and still eating like a piggy.

Just wanna throw in another welcome

I vote for Oscars being always cute! Ok, if they're just after a little fish with mouth open or fighting, they might be a bit less cute temporarily But young Oscars really match the baby scheme with their big eyes.
If I were a guy, I\'d have probably needed only 30% of the amount of words to say this

At the moment I feed mine three times a day. Once in the morning about 6 to eight med. size pellets. Once in the afternoon about 15 to 20 med. size pellets soaked in a vitimin supplement. Once in the evening 6 to 8 freeze dried shrimp or krill. Occasionally I give him live crickets and earthworms when I find them. All of this is gone in a matter of a couple of minutes at each feeding and he's usually looking for more.

I feed mostly Hikari Cichlid Gold pellets which are available in different sizes to fit O's from small to large. I also use Omega one freeze dried shrimp. Hikari freeze dried krill. My O doesn't care much for veggies but alot of people do peas. You can feed them shrimp, prawns, and a host of other food.

Some people use feeders but I don't care much for that you run the risk of transmitting a disease to your O unless you raise the feeders yourself and even that can be risky. Besides I think it's cruel (just my opinion).

At the moment I have just one O he's about 9" and is in a 55gal. I will be moving him to a 125gal in a month or so at which time I may try to add a second O but I'm not sure yet because that creates a whole new set of problems.

Here's a pic of my guy about a month ago.
