My name is Stuart.

Hope you all well and looking forward to Christmas.

I have at the moment just one Oscar (I call him Peter after my father in law, as he eats for England!!)

I made all the usual mistakes, (should have read this site first lol). Bought a lovely little cute fish about 3cm long. Put him in my 60ltr tank ! Yep you guessed it he grew and grew and grew!!!.

He also won me over with his character and manerisms, (I cannot believe I am saying this about a fish) So I whent out and bought him a new home. A Jewell 240 tank. I have put in 2 plecks and two clown loaches to keep tank clean. Next stop is a buddy for him. Trouble is he is now about 9 inches long.
How small an Oscar can I put in with him as obviously the smaller ones are much cheeper. But would not like to buy a little fellow just for him to be eaten.

Thanks in anticipation
Stuart.

Hi Stuart and welcome to OFL.

If my math is correct a 240ltr tank is about 63gal. please guys correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Anyway if that's the case I don't think I'd add any more fish to the tank. Plecos (common ones) can reach a length of 24" and clown loaches get quite large as well. I think you might already be a bit overstocked.

johnl is right im afraid, your tank is too small for all those fish and 2 full sized oscars, in fact you might struggle with the ones you have. I would suggest you get at least a 75g but even better would be a 100g. You dont need 2 plecs and they are messy so i would get rid of one of them

As for adding another oscar it can be a bit hit and miss. I would suggest you get an oscar about 4 or 5 inches long (your oscar will only eat the new baby if it can fit it in his mouth) or buy a baby and grow it on in your small tank. Or you can get a similar sized oscar and see what happens. If they fight and one gets injured put a divider in and put an oscar in each side. After a couple weeks put the aggressive oscar in the other ones side and hopefully they will be ok, then remove the divider after 3 or 4 days

Both the plecs and the loaches will have to go if you want them to be happy I'm afraid. The plecs will get WAY to long and produce way to much waste as delboy mentioned and the loaches get 10'' or more and should be kept in groups because they are a schooling fish.

Have any pictures of your oscar?

welcome to the site.the guys have basically covered it and i agree 100% get rid of the pleco's common pleco are just lazy they just take up space and crap all over the tank,as for the clown loaches,,,,,im not gonna comment on them as they are my second fav fish aft the Oscar and i wouldnt be able to get rid of them.

if you still have yr smaller tank set it up with all the xtra fish.
DONT BUY ON IMPULSE DO SUM HOMEWORK FIRST
