Hello there!

Ladies and gentlemen, I am here today and from this day forth to properly educate myself on the ways of taking care of the Oscar and such.

I decided that I was going to pursue the Oscar when I was kinda forced/bribed to move down into the basement when I realized I'd have enough room to be able to keep a bigger tank!

I have a little less than one year in the art of fish keeping under my belt, although I have not done it halfheartedly and have worked very hard trying to understand and learn everything I can to better be able take care of fish. Up till now I've only kept bettas but one day when I have the experience I would like to move up to being able to take care of an Arowana and some seahorses.

So to start, I will move up to the Oscar. I chose the Oscar because I fell in love with the Albino Tiger Oscar and their cute yet ugly faces xD.

However my quest to obtain my own Oscar will be a long journey since well... I currently lack the funds for the set up and so in the meantime I wanna research so I'm prepared :3

From the research I've done thus far, I've written a brief summary of my initial plans on my fish log thingie.

Anyway! Nice to meet you all! I hope it will be a fun and rewarding stay here ^.^ Please treat me kindly <3!

Hello there and welcome.
You deserve a very kind treatment for your preparation log is very detailed and complete.
Just take care you take your time to cycle the biggun properly before introducing your fisf, and you have a good oscar home!
Scientific note:A goal that is written down has far more change of succeeding then just a plan.Studies have proven a written goal has about 90% of succeeding, and "just a plan" about less then 40% chance of succeeding.

Thank you very much! I bought my first betta on impulse D: Kinda learned from that experience... never buy fish without being completely prepared. I was glad that I at least had some knowledge of them when I bought the setup x_x; but not a lot of knowledge with taking care of them, so I found out a lot of things the hard way... :3 So this time, I defiantly want to be much better prepared!

Yes cycling! Actually, I'm a bit confused because I've read that there are a lot of methods people can use to cycle their tanks....

Would it be better to cycle it with fish or without fish? Cause I know some people gets some minnows and stuff to cycle their tanks sometimes. And I do have biological aquarium supplement stuff that supposedly adds beneficial bacteria with no need to cycle, but I've been told to not trust it. And how does fishless cycle work? I heard people drop food in their aquarium to create waste for the bacteria to start forming. x_x;;

Ohh? That's a very interesting fact! I can defiantly see how that's true though, when you have a goal you have something to aim for!

Hello Tony! And thank you ^^ Haha, I'm sure it is! I keep reading all the articles and forum posts and am finding out tons of useful information! At least people seemed pretty experience here and the advice people offer is really reasonable. On a lot of fish sites people are like "I dunno, good luck" when you have a problem Dx

I saved every buck from not partying and not betting when I was in college to get my big tank.. and trust me.. it is totally worth every thing your sacrifice.. live the dreams.. god bless

Hey there Warlock Thank you! Ahaha I'm having fun already!

Really? xD That's really interest lol! I usually try and make funny and energetic intros well because they're fun to write and fun to see how people reply

I wish I could save everything! But fish keeping is only my second hobby! I'm mostly a big Japanese anime nerd and I spend a lot of money on figurines ... I cannot not get them, because a lot of figures have a high collector's value they only get more expensive later and I'd rather get them for a good price! I'm pretty pathetic...

But I'm looking for a new job because the one I have now is being kinda douchie and cutting my hours for stupid reasons. I'm hoping I'll get a job at a small aquarium store I'll know sometime this month if I get the job! I hope I do though, they did express some interest in hiring me, and I would love to work with even more fish! If I do get a new job I'm hoping I'll be able to get more money to be able to purchase everything sooner! But as it is, it's gonna be slow.

At least I don't go out and party and stuff e_e yaay save money!

lol, figurines.
Well, i have to admit i've been collecting Smurfs all my life and collected over 250 though the years.
But now i got kids, and they didn't quite get the "collection-idea".
Now to them they're just toys and now they're everywhere.

Please check the header on the homepage, in the list of helpfull articles there's all the info you need on cycling.
ps I'd like a job at a fishstore, but i'd only be telling folks;"NO!" all the time...
