well, I just got him last night.

he's a mixed Oscar (half red, half tiger).
really cool looking fish. I'll try to get a good pic so I can post it for y'all.
around 2 inches or so (maybe a little bigger)

he's still kinda kinda shy, but from what I'm reading, that's normal when putting them into a new home.

easier said than done.
I don't own a digital camera, and my blackberry doesn't take the best pics.

Welcome to the community

Even with a half decent camera, it's not always easy to get a good mixture of your fish. Not only have you got to contend with them always on the move, but to have the reflection off the glass which makes taking pictures notoriously difficult at the best of times
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss

well, he's still kinda snobby. I've only had him for about 15 hours.
if he thinks you're not looking, he swims around a bit.
but as soon as he notices you, he acts all shy and just chills at the bottom of the tank.
I got a pic of him just hanging out on the rocks, but the picture looks like crap.

makes the glass look a lot dirtier than it is, and his lighter colors come out looking almost glowing fluorescent yellow-ish

here he is (I know, the quality sucks)
his lighter areas don't actually look that color.
they're a little darker, and have more of a green tint to them than the picture shows

That is not a bad photo considering. It'll be interesting to see how much the fish changes colour as it grows, Tiger oscars normally change colour dramatically from when they are juvenile to adulthood

how long does it typically take for an Oscar to get comfortable in his new home?

he does move around when the light is off, or if no one is looking, but he sulks when you're looking at him.

I've read that this can be expected.
I'm just wondering, how long do they normally act his way?
