Hi everyone

I have finally registered as a user, been reading this site for a while now, since I got my first Oscars 1 Month ago.

My GF has had a tank for years and we had tropical fish when I was a kid but this the first tank of my own. I ended up with oscars by a mixture of accident and not doing enough fish research first.

Because the GFs tank is full of tiny fish, neons, platys, mollies and similar, I wanted a tank with slightly bigger fish. I had 4-5 inches in mind.

So after cycling my tank the first fish I bought were bala sharks, I saw them in the shop where they had two tanks next to each other labelled small silver sharks(£2.50) and large silver sharks(£8.95). Thinking that the small ones would grow to be as big if not a bit bigger than the large ones I bought six of the small ones.

The next day after looking these up on a website I realised that they can grow as big as 12 inches long.

So the next time I went to the lfs I remembered to ask how big the fish would be fully grown. I was told 12" long and so bought them thinking I would get a bigger tank next year (mine is 100 Litres). These were my first oscar fish.

I then did a lot more research about oscar fish (mostly on here) and basically I need a bigger tank very quickly. They are great fish though so I am looking forward to having them for a long time. They have great personality and so the WAF of a new tank is increasing daily.

Long introduction, In short as I have been reading lots on here you have all been a great help already, even though you didn't know it.

Once you get addicted to keeping oscars you will be glad you made that mistake- its the thing that will have encouraged you to get a big tank and then some oscars
