Welcome to the site Dave. The eel like thing looks like a Bichir.
Delhezi Bichir (Tank Raised)
Scientific Name: Polypterus delhezi
Recommended Aquarium: 50+ Gallons
Approx. Adult Size: 14 inches
Temperament: Semi-Aggressive
Ease of Care: Easy
Diet: Carnivore
Native Waters: Congo West Africa
This primitive looking fish would be a unique addition to your tank. The Polypterus is air breathing and must be able to swim to the surface of the water to gulp air. This fish is suited to the advanced aquarist since he is semi-aggressive and his care-level is somewhat difficult. The Delhezi is inter-species compatible, but only with larger size fish that can defend themselves. They can be shy when introducing them to their new home, so a cave, where they can hide and feel safe is a good idea. The Delhezi Bichir is a very hardy, carnivorous species, eating mainly chopped meats and beef heart. These nocturnal creatures hunt during twilight hours, so after the aquarium lights are dimmed, would be prime time for feeding.
