TOPIC: In Need of POLITE help, please.

In Need of POLITE help, please. 1 year, 12 months ago #97099

Lion, is my oscar & he will be 1 year old on June 1st.
He currently lives in a 10 gal. tank.
No, he's not that big in it.. trust me.
I would cut off my arm for Lion if need be.

I need to move him,
I dont want him to suffer at all and there is a pond i want to put him in.

---I feel you need to know,----
I live in a small. town. And there's NO pet shops avaliable to "sell" him to and find him even a decent "home." And I'm trying to get hired for a job this week, so it will be some time before I can by a 89$ 20 gal. tank.

The pond is big, not a "wild" pond but it is very big and has multiple giant goldfish in it now. At some poings tadpoles. It is owned by my very close friend and it is well kept and the fish fed.
The problem... there are no heaters. I'm horrified at this situation and I don't know what to do.

I want him in the big pond, but at the same time I DO NOT WANT TO KILL HIM IN THE WINTER. OBVIOUSLY. I do love him to death... I've been in tears for a while, he's my waterdog.

I would LOVE some POLITE advice... or if someone would know of a place that would honestly get him a good home. I could never. ever let him get hurt ever.

OK, He can NOT live in an unheated pond.. It gets far too cold in your area, and he is a tropical fish!

Have you tried posting an ad on Craigslist???

Don't put the fish in the pond.

Put an ad on craigslist. You can screen for a responsible owner with a proper sized tank. Good luck

i wont.
thank you..
if i hear anything or can do anything else i'll tell you all.

Yeah craigslist should work...make a condition that you want to deliver him personally and check out the tank he'll be going into if you're concerned. Highly unlikely someone is going to mistreat/not know how to care for him if they already have a large well-kept/established tank for you to look at, and anyone not cool with that really isn't what you're looking for anyways.

Even before you arrange the visit make sure and ask them tank size, and what other kinds of fish might be in the tank with him in your emails.

or check secondhand sites for free tanks ,i got several tanks for free, upto 90Gl, so have a good look around.
You may be as lucky as me.
Oscars lowest lethal temp is 13,9oC, so in a cold winter he will surely die...
Hope you find a solution.
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!
