I dont think this is a great picture but its the best at this point.
do you think that this may be fin rot or something like that? poor kid wound up
going through a mini cycle after meds for the lost brother. and if so what fixes it? melfix or somthing.

take a look.

Difficult to say, like you have said, the photo isn't very good. Fin rot is a bacterial infection so you will normally see a white edge on the affected area. It is not uncommon for fins to become a little bit ragged, as long as the water is kept in good condition they normally grow back okay. Are you sure that you haven't got another fish that is doing a little bit of fin nipping?

yea...the picture is of no use... no good visual.
i concur with OFL, fin rot is normally a water issue diseases...
keep it pristine and give your fish varied foods, and it will recover
soon... but if it is a result of bullying, then you need another approach
to deal with it...

no room mates anymore just h/her, it really doesnt appear to be rot to me just looks strange all of a sudden.
I will keep my eye on it and try for a better pic. water is back to normal, so I will give it a few more days.

thanks all

i cant see if its really finrot.. but from wat i know theres 2 types of finrot. bacterial and fungal. the fungal type could be medicated with the normal anti-finrot medication that u can find in the fish store. for the bacterial type, u would hav to get antibiotics from the local pharmacy/drug store. particularly tetracycline hydrochloride or any of the penicillin based drug.

in my tank prolongued high nitrates result in frayed and degenerated fins on my fish.
It's one of the first signs i need to increase waterchanges...
what are your nitrates doing?

may still be an after effect of the nitrates.
Don't worry, fins heal real quick if the waterquality is good.
and nitrates of 5, is very good.
