I really need to know if anyone had there baby die because he was given food to big and he choked to death? Im asking cause my baby brownie who we had for 6-7months. He was about 5-6 inches long. I bought krill for him thinking he would love it. Well my daughter gave him one and he swollwed it whole. My daughter calls me on my phone while I was at the store screaming and crying he was choking to death. I rushed home like someone was dying. He didnt look good. He was at the bottom of the tank on his side. I cant even tell you how I tried everything in the world to get it out of his mouth.For 45min I tried it wouldnt come out. It was horrible and I was hysterical. My baby died. It was awuful. After we buried him I went to my fish store. My guy said he wasnt choking. That they can swollow something that big. Even though you could see it in his mouth. He said he would have digested it. So this means I killed my baby by trying to save him. Please be kind to me. I thought he was choking. Im devastated to think if I left him alone he would have been fine. But since I tried to get it I killed him.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! I'm so sorry! I have never heard of Oscars choking on anything. But, you did what you thought needed to be done for your baby. It just sucks that you lost him!

But good news, you can get a new baby! And then we can raise our babies together!

thats no good on your loss, im pretty sure they will try their hardest to try and eat and swallow anything, mine was floating round with a rock in his mouth for a while last night coz he scooped itup when getting pellets.

well when i was very young i found a beetle whilst at a friends house, we gave it to the o, and the beetle was crawling out its gills, blood was cominig out and it wasnt pleasnt. but after 20min the beetle got out the gills and then the o ate it again with no trouble.
the o was about 3inch

Thanks. I was afraid you guys would look down on me. I work at a hospital. But I guess fish dont breath like we do. Even if food is all the way down there thoat they can still breath unlike people. We did buy another baby. He is so pretty. I was in such a panick I never thought to call my fish place. My fish guy said if I had called he would have told me to leave him alone. Thants why I was asking you guys. Most of you have had your babies a long time and I just wanted to see if it was possiblefor them to choke. Just when I thought I knew what I was doing, something like this makes me relize I know not as much as I should about my fish. I will have to read alot more on oscars. Thanks again. I don't think Oscars or fish in general can choke to death because they don't breathe in the same way we do. However, if they get something stuck in their mouth or throat than they could starve to death I suppose. I was watching an angling program but was filmed in Africa, I can't remember which fish it was, that they found a dead one with another fish of the same species stuck inside its mouth.

sorry for your loss, but i have to aggree with the others.
O's breath through their gills and a mouth bulging with food will not block their breathing,imo.
Mine swam round with a too bigga fish stuck in his mouth, but couldt breath just as well.

my new tiger will eat lots of pellets and will take a feeder fish as well.
He'll be swimming round for a long time before he finally crushed all the pellets, to finish the fish after that.

btw we never look down on someone who does their best in the fishes interest and is looking for help. in the end that's what we're here for.
I'm pretty sure most of us lost fish due to various circumstances, i know i did.
Especially if you are willing to learn we'll be here to help you as much as possible!

I'm very sorry about your oscar, but we have all lost fish, I lost my favorite one recently (he was my first oscar) and I was devastated too but it will help if you get another oscar, it helped me
