I have two 3 month old oscars. One of them has grown much faster than the other. They get along rather well the majority of the time, but the bigger one does pick on the smaller one on occasion. She doesn't have any major injuries, but her scales are a little roughed up, and she is missing scales in certain areas. So my question is: should I consider segregating them?

If injuries are being called on a regular basis and things look like they are not going to get any better then of course it is better to split them up. However, Oscars can be rough with each other and can cause superficial injuries. I certainly wouldn't split them up unless it was absolutely necessary. It is your call because we are not there to monitor your fish and say yes, they need to be split up, or no, leave them together.

hey there.
Oscars may pick on eachother on some occasions, and they may get hurt in the process.
But there's a difference between occasional picking and plain aggression.
Yours are a bit young to portrait territorial issues.
If the wounds heal quick enough before any new injury is caused,i say give them some more time. Keep a close eye on them.
If the bullying continues and your fish is hurt badly, with no time to recover, rehome the bully.
Do you have a spare tank that big, so it can house a segragated fish?
How big is the tank they are in now?
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Thanks for the replies. Right now they are in a 90 gallon tank. I envision upgrading that to 125 in the next 6 months or so. It doesn't seem to be pure aggression, as they get along most of the time and are actually really cute together. But the smaller one looks a little ragged with missing scales and some split fins. I think I will wait it out and monitor. I'd rather not have to rehome one of them if that can be avoided.
