I need to make sure that I am on the right track. I purchased my new baby Oscar, went back to the LFS 2 days later and the whole tank he came from was quarantined for Ich. I do not have a second tank set up so the little guy went straight into my tank - not the water from his bag though. He has one little white spot on one of his side fins - no other visible markings that we can see. My larger Oscar developed 2 spots on one of his fins. The Jack Dempsey has no marks that we can see. Fish are happy, eating, pooping, swimming, breathing normal.

I purchased Quick Cure at the advise of the LFS guy.

Following the directions on the bottle... I did 3 days of treatment and did a 25% water change. I am on day 2 of the second round of treatments. After day 3 of the second treatment I am supposed to do a 50% water change. The process is to be repeated until there are no more marks.

My levels are as follows:

Temp 82
Ammonia - 0.0
Nitrites - 0.0
Nitrates - 80
PH - 7.8

The larger Oscar no longer has visible signs. The baby Oscar still has the one spot but it is not better or worse.

Am I on the right track? Anything else that I should be doing?

The life cycle of white spot in a tropical tank is approx six days. Keep the treatment going until you see no spots for 6 days.

Another way of treating white spot is to increase the temp to 30c. This increases the life cycle such that is dies out so increase your temp to 30c until you see no spots for 6 days (make sure you have plently of aeration as dissolved oxygen decreases with higer temps).

Dont forget to remove any carbon from the filter

If the spot on the new fish it is in the same position then it is unlikely to be white spot but its not impossible is has got another spot in the same position.

Can you post a pic so we can be sure it is white spot. White spot is pin prick sized white spots
I can't get no sleep

No carbon in my tanks - ever! The spot is in the same place. Pics and video attached. It is hard to get him in pics since he is a Lutino!

Sorry for the 3 videos... wanted you to get the best views.

dont do meds
re turn the meds and get your money back
just raise the temp
to 86
when i had ich i raised my temp to 89 and all fish did fine
had it this way for a weeks time
then slowly went down to 82 over a course of 4 days

I cant see any spots except for a mark on the fin- is that the spot you are on about. If that mark has been in the same spot all the time without disappearing then i think it isnt white spot. If you havent seen any spots for 6 days then stop the treatment. You can leave the temperatue up for a few more days if you want to be doubly careful

That is the spot I was referring to. No new spots and no changes to the other fish. It has been 7 days since I started treating. So, tomorrow I'm going to do a water change .. try to get those nitrates under control and stop treatments. I will keep the water temp where it is at and we will see how it goes.

Thank you kindly for your attention and assistance!

hi brooksie!!!! i had watch the video several times...
you know what... you worry too much... though it is normal
since we love our fishes...but that spot is not worrisome.
i am not sure how it got that but i don't think it is an ICK.
single spot on the pectoral fin.... it may just be an injury...

it's hard to see from the vid,but i wouldt worry too much,B.
I had a similar thing with my red, but he had several holes at the end of his finspines, but in the middle of his fin.
Keeping my water in good condition made it go away in some weeks.

I would say the mark on the fin is not white spot. Sometimes fish get these marks on the fin and they often 'grow' out although sometimes it can take some time. I would say you dont have white spot!!!

I understand the worry, I am always checking my fish to make sure they are ok. Its good to be a good observer of your fish. Keep up the good work and post a pic if you have anymore worries, we will be happy to give you help and advice

Just keep an eye on your fish and if you see anymore PIN prick size hole then you will know the white spot is back (i will be surprised if it comes back). When you refill your tank after a water change to do refill with water the same temp as the tank and not with cold right?

Thanks... his other fin looks a little "rough" today but he sleeps in a cave at night pratically laying on the rocks. He probably scraped it up. Thanks everyone. Over protective mom. But when you see a tank full of Ich and you just bought a fish out of it... you can understand! Plus my first tank (non Oscars) all died from Ich because I didn't act fast enough, didn't have this site for help and followed some bad LFS advice!

As for the water change. I laugh at your statement about using cold water. Only because in Florida, the temp of the "cold" water coming out of the tap is 83 degrees right now! So it is easy to keep the temp the same!

Thanks everyone.. sorry for the worry but I'd rather ask!

You all rock!
