My husband brought home some feeder fish - I noticed one with white spots all over his body (ick?) - while I was grabbing the net to extract the spotted one - Doug ate 'em. Is there any potential side effects? Do I need to medicate? The other feeders showed no sign of sickness or ill health.

I am not sure about this one. I've never come across a problem where a fish has eaten another fish with white spot. Hopefully any parasites will be totally destroyed by the digestive acid in the fishes stomach. The best thing you can do is just keep an eye on it for the next few days, I don't think there's any need to meditate just at the moment.

I doubt your oscar will catch white spot from eating a diseased fish due to how white spot spreads. A spot will burst and release spores that go into the substrate and grow for 3 days and then go looking for a host(if i remember right). However your oscar may catch white spot from any spots that have burst and released spores. If i were you i would raise the temp to 30c for a week just to be sure

If you are going to feed feeders you have had a very good example of why you should quarantee them for a while, I would say 2 weeks, to stop them giving diseases to your oscar

Yeah...luckily things seem to have worked out ok, take it as a warning and move on...there are plenty of frozen fish, krill, shrimp, worms etc. oscars like that are healthier and disease free to supplement his diet. Why take the risk if there are absolutely no benefits?

Thanks guys - I'm not going to use feeders anymore. My oscar Doug did develop ick, I've got the temp turned up and have bought some medication for the tank. Any other pieces of advice for clearing it up?

What you are doing will get rid of the white spot, keep the temp up and treatment for 6 days after you have seen the last spot
