I lost my red oscar stone cold, it was not a good day. The other oscar is sad to. He didn't eat well today. I hope he will be ok all alone in the tank. I really don't know why he died? Water chem is good. Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0, ph 7.6 and nitrates 10ppm.

Hey, that is too bad, I'm really sorry to hear it
I may not always be right, but I am always the boss
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

Im sorry for your loss

Your water quality is good, so its not that

Unfortunately when keeping livestock they sometimes die and we dont know why. Its expensive to find out. The oscar was probably not destined to live a full life

i presume it must have been a weak specimen .
You need some luck in purchasing your fish, as with any animals btw.
you still got your big boy to keep you busy!

My red oscar seemed really sad after the green sunfish, that he grew up with, died, and actually by my mistake.
he kept sulking for a long time. Until i got him a gar as tankmate and he really cheered up.

That ended when i introduced a 10" Vieja into the O's tank. They didn't get along at all and my o got beaten up pretty badly and knocked himself out on some occasion.
He became very shy and stayed at one spot in the tank all the time.
Even more sad then after the sunfish died...so the Vieja was rehomed.

My O immediatelly acted like Boss of the tank again and ate out of my hands straight away again.
Then i took a risk and bought a 6-7"tiger Oscar and they have teamed up in the past few months, and are acting like a couple.

Quite a long post, to explain that oscars can indeed be showing a change in behaviour after a tankmate dies or is rehomed.

It's up to you to find a combo that works for you and the tank you have.
Do you think of restocking or are you gonna leave it like this for a while?
Our fish don't grow too big, our tank becomes too small!

Well I was thinking of leaving it with just Vader for now. Remember he is the one recovering from HITH. At least get him better. He acted better today and ate well and responded well to me.
