I assume that normal garden waste, vegetables etc. go into your compost? I can't think of any reason why compost worms would be harmful to your fish.

the worms you buy from large stockist may come from undesirable places like sewage outlets so best to leave them in some fresh soil for a few days before giving them to your fish. what i do is buy them place them in a large container full of earth and waste from meals. any fruit or veg is fine. you will find you use more than you breed though. i have a few very small worms breed from the larger ones I buy, but breeding don't seam to work. I mainly use the container to keep large amounts of worm alive for a few wks.

Catch your own worms. But you can only do it on damp/rainy days. Check out my article in the members articles section on catching worms. You should only catch your own if you know the area hasnt been treated with insecticides/pesticides (like your own garden)

You saying that Delboy, I live 5 mins away from a golf course. (I play once or twice a wk) and have noticed that sometimes they treat the grass. i don't know what they use but worms are everywhere. when I bump into the grounds keeper I will ask, cos collecting on those days will be a dam easy. just got to find out what they use on the grass and if it will affect the fish.

The thing is if they use insecticides/pesticides then some may get into the worms and then may end up in your oscar. Over time the levels in the oscar could increase and cause the oscar problems. Im no expert on these things so I dont take the risk. I only collect worms from my garden but if i knew a place where they werent used then i would collect them. Fingers crossed for your oscar they dont use them on the golf course
