So I moved my 2 oscars across the state (a 5 hour drive). They were in the box for 10 hours with an aerator. They did good as soon as I put them back in the tank, within minutes they were swimming as if they had never been moved and now (2 days later) they are doing better than they did before!

On the downside, when I took them out of the box my little oscar was pretty badly beaten up and missing scales, he also has tears in his pectoral fins. I have no idea what could have caused it. The box was empty minus an aerator stone (which is what probably did it) and the other oscar. But I don't think they would have fought being that scared in a dark box? Anyways, he is healing up nicely, his scales are almost back to normal but his fins are taking longer to heal.

I'm just so glad that they both lived!

BTW.... the fish food here is much cheaper than where I lived before so they will be even more spoiled!!!

Congrats... Moving them is tough. I have moved mine a couple times (although not that far) and it is always quite a chore...

Glad to hear your O's made it okay. I am sure the scales will heal in no time.

very good job.
Glad they made it allright.
How big was the box you used, and remind me of the oscars size ,please?
just for reference.

When i moved my 10" Vieja i put him in a 16"x 16"x 11" styrofoam box but it still gave a lot of splashing about in the box.
I suppose if i'd kept an airstone in there, there wouldt have been damage too.
Maybe a spongue couldt be a good replacement for an airstone, what you think?

What did you do with your filtermedia?
Do you have to cycle all over again?

I also want to know about your filter and cycle. It seems that if you moved 5 hours away, there's a good chance you lost your bacteria or decided to just recycle. Good luck with your fish!

NODDY...
I have one oscar who is maybe 5 inches and one who is maybe 3. I kept the gravel and the filter pad wet for the trip so hopefully I saved enough bacteria to seed the tank all over and make for a quick re-cycle. And I moved my oscars in a Styrofoam box also

JENNYTMOUH...
Well lets hope I saved enough bacteria not to have to re-cycle completely.

Welll, test and find out.
I'm pretty curious to find out if any bacteria survived.

AM - Cant tell, somewhere between 0 and .25
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0

I might go to the LFS and ask for them to give me an old piece of filter media when they change it, to cycle the tank. They are a good store, no sick fish, the guy there really knows what he is doing so I wouldn't need to worry about diseases.

looks like you lost your cycle.
Getting some seeded media is an excellent idea to get the cycle back on track.
