So ever since I placed this other oscar in the tank, there has been drama from the smaller one. This new guy is about 2 inches longer and is being bullied in the tank. Im sure its a territorial thing, but Im wondering if theyll sort it out on their own or is this just something thats going to happen until the bigger one gets a better home?

Yes, the tank is small for two (60gal) but the previous environment it was in at the LFS was waaaay worse (30gal tank packed with convicts). Im only planning to keep it until it gets better then rehome it via craigslist. Mine is about 6inches and 5 months(ish) old and the other is about 7inches, age unknown.

Mind you, both are injured, one from the convicts, and mine from trying to squeeze through a divider. Doesnt seem to have affected him much as he is still bullying the other one. Is this like cats sorting out territory or is this going to be an ongoing issue?

EDIT: Ive taken everything out of the tank so there is only one rock (holding down the bubble wand line) and the random seashell. Im hoping the lack of objects that are 'mine' will eliminate some of the aggression.

unfortunately it's hard to predict. bigger O could be able to defend himself when he get used to the environment. It depends on the personalty of them. did you try "time out bag"

no. what is that? I tried the time-out separator and my small one got injured [see INJURED OSCAR] thread.

All fish are different, some are aggressive and some are not. My friend had an oscar that was 1/2 the size of his bigger one. the smaller one would swim up underneath the big one and nip it. You just have to hope they will learn to get on. If one fish becomes miserable (badly beaten or hiding all the time) the you will have to rehome one. i would recommend the bully

sometimes 2 oscar just will not get on and then, again, you will have to rehome one

Cross your fingers and hope they learn to get on
I can't get no sleep

well, Im not getting rid of Fluffy. Hes got an injury from trying to get through the divider. Looks like his fins will grow back too as the hard spines werent damaged. Hes on melafix and water changes.

I called the pet store about rehoming the other one and they said theyd give me store credit. I guess thats going to be the only solution since Ive not heard a response from craigslist. I will just have to emphasize the fact that he must be isolated rather than being bullied in another tank.

Ive taken out EVERYTHING from the tank and rearranged the water pump and bubble wand, lowered the temp and reduced the light... it seems like nothing is working. the bigger oscar eats when fed, and swims a bit, but spends most of his time hiding near the front and top of the aquarium in the corner near the pump. They do sulk together when Ive done water changes and removed objects...

sucks.

UPDATE:

So they arent fighting as much, even though there is still some aggression going on. Its not been very severe, there hasnt been any damage inflicted, and it seems like the little one is really just 'pushing around' the newcomer. Ive uploaded a video so you all can judge for yourselves. And again, I am aware the tank is not good for two oscars but I am planning to rehome the bigger one once he is healed. I dont want him going back to that pet store unless theyre going to really kill each other as they had him in a 30gal convict tank. thats the ONLY reason I got him.

yes, but you made the video private and it can only be seen by your friends.
You have to change that and make the vid public ,then we can watch the vid too.

btw it looks like the base of your lovely o wasn't damaged, if it's regenerating allready.
Cool, it'll probably grow back completely!
and like Shinc said, your o's got very remakable colours and markings on him.
You can be proud. looks a bit like the markigs on it's fins, like the lutino's often have.
Hope they stay cool with eachother until you can upgrade.

My 2 oscars are having their quarrels and do push eachother around, but never do any real damage to eachother.

I concluded it is just testing eachother out, to see if the other o is worthy as a mate.(I suspect the red to be a female and the tiger to be a male.)
