im new here, so hello everyone! i have two large oscars, each about 10- 11 inches long!! we call them zeeb and zanzibar!we are pretty sure that zeeb is female and zanzibar is a male.they have always got along fine but about a week ago zanzibar put several deep wounds into each side of zeeb. i started adding melafix to help with the healing process but a couple days later she got fungus all over both sides. i started adding pimafix on thurs and today(sat) the fungus has started lifting with a scab like apperance and has totally fell off one side leaving a very red open looking sore with bleeding on the edges. is this normal? is something else wrong? please help!! i have attached a pic, i hope they are clear enough to see

Difficult to say what has happened. Make sure the water is in very good condition, low nitrates. If it looks very nasty, treats other medication and just observe to see if it is improving over the coming days. Hopefully you won't get any secondary infection setting in.

That was a severe injury. All you can do for your remaining oscar is too keep the water good (ammonia and nitrite 0 and nitrate below 40 but ideally below 20). However your other fish will be ok as he caused the problems to the first. Unfortunately oscars will fight and injuries can be the result. This can happen to 2 that have got on for ages. Its always a good idea to have a divider or a spare tank ready to separate them if they start to injure each other

do you think introducing a baby oscar to the tank would be a good idea? i would LOVE a red oscar. i have mild OCD and like things in pairs, thats why i have 4 dogs(2 males, 2 females) and 2 cats:blush:BUT i dont want anything to happen!!

The problem with adding a new baby oscar is that it will either be too small and the large oscar will eat it or if you get a slightly bigger one your big oscar might take a disliking to it and bully it. So get your new oscar big enough so that it wont fit into your large oscars mouth. Also check that the shop will take it back if they dont get on. Good luck
