Are settling in to their new tank!!
They arrived last night and after being de - bagged
And added to the tank I left the lights out till this morning,
All swam up to the tank looking for food!!
My tank looks empty as they are so small.
I have a corner 400Lt tank so hope to get a pair out of the 6.
2x red tigers
2 x red
2 x common

Happy days

Okay, where do I begin? I hate to be the person to tell you this but I don't think you are going to have an easy time maintaining water quality if you keep those Oscar's until they are sexually mature. It is going to be at least a year, probably more before you see positive signs of forming a breeding pair. You have also got to bear in mind that you may well run the risk of aggression because of the size of the tank. What type of filtration have you got?

Firstly great name, Delboy forever

Now the bad news, 6 oscars need a huge tank, 400l is just about big enough for 2 at a push. So you need to either get a massive tank (300g+) or rehome 4

If you keep 6 in a 400l you will end up with a lot of sick and dead oscars

There are plenty of 6xAdult O's in 180G US tanks on youtube that look pretty happy and healthy. It depends on the temperament of the 6 Os in question too. There are different schools of thought on how to keep 6 oscars.
4xOscars
1xBlood Parrot
2xJDs (pair)
5xClown Loaches
1xPleco

265 Gallons (84x24x30)
36" T5 Light for shading, sunlight effects
300 Gallon rated Living Color wet-dry sump
3L of SeaChem Matrix + Bioballss, ceramic rings etc...
1xIvy for nitrate filtering

I am always looking for better ways to enhance the lives of my babies. Hit me up, let's chat about fish!

Right !
Where do i start!!
I have been keeping oscars and other larger fish for nearly 20 years!
Water quality and filtration is not a issue!
Always new i would have to get rid of 4 as its a pair i am after,
!
Really annoys me when people try to put fish keepers down and be- little them before knowing anything about the person or theer experiance.........

Pretty bad forum managment!!!!

since you have been keeping oscars for 20 years i would assume that you already know that oscars, as a species, wont pair of until they reach sexual maturity. and im sure you know that they do not reach sexual maturity until the are between 12-18 month of age and are about 12+ inches in length.

so what you are saying is that you plan on keeping 6 foot long oscars in a 100 gallon tank until you pick a pair and then rehome the rest.
you therefore should be able to understand why some member are concerned about the water quality which will be difficult to maintain at best and the added concern about aggression between the males with so many fish in such a small tank.

perhaps next time you could clarify that you are an expert fish keeper and are well aware that water maintenance will be a major chore before you post that you plan on keeping your oscars in such an overcrowded tank.

as a rule we general recommmend 55 gallon per oscar to members to help lessen the work load that overcrowding brings therefore making the hobby enjoyable to the average fishkeeper.

also after reading the posts in your thread i didnt find any "bad forum management" or anyone out of line but perhaps that is just my opinion on the matter.
Warning..I will offend you at some point!!!

belittle-ing and putting down fishkeepers is not our aim, and neither did i see anything that looked like that.
Common Expierience has proven that keeping 6 o's in such a small tank will often lead to illness or fishdeath, unless a very religious waterchanging schedule is kept.
How will your waterchanging schedule be?

And please don't feel offended but instead share your 20 years of expierience with us.

I wouldn't say so much 20 years experience ....more like broken pride after being TOLD!!!!

If your not going to listen to what people are telling you...especially on a Forum where all of us have Oscars and share our experiences with each other everyday.
You must be a nutter...

Please remember the way in which we deem acceptable to keep Oscars has drasticly changed in a very short space of time...Get with the times!!!!

We get loads of people posting on here who have bought fish that when full grown will make a massively overstocked tank (mostly due to bad advice from a LFS) so my responce that you have too many fish is correct. You also make no mention of a much larger tank in the future

Keeping 6 oscars in a less than 100g tank until you get a pair will be very very difficult even with 20 years fish keeping experience. You will need to do huge daily water changes to keep the water quality good, and there is nothing you can do to stop any agression.

I stick to my original answer in that you have too many fish for a 100g

If you posted on some other oscar site you would have received a less polite reply, so forum management is actually good on here
