Ladies and Gents,

I posted a week or two ago about snow (my albino) possibly having HITH, I read last night about another oscar owner who's oscar looked like its scales were drying out or cracking. This owner said their local expert said maybe it was lack of varied diet.

That is exactly what snow's face/body looks like in places. It almost looks as if he is getting "old" with wrinkles or cracks. Scales look more pronounced and less "smooth." I thought feeding a diet of krill, blood worms and brine shimp and pellets would be varied enough, but maybe not?

If it is diet/nutrient related, I would think my other oscar would show the same issues but maybe not.

I am probably worrying too much, but I just wanted to describe it better.

did you post some pics in the original thread?
Could you please repost them then, often a picture says more than a 1000 words.
And i'm not completly sure what you mean by the provided description...

Your diet seems more that varied to me, so that can not be the problem.
I know a lot of oscars that don't get spoiled that much, and i know your even exploring more food at the moment, so no worries there, mate!

What I am seeing doesn't photograph or video well. It ends up getting white washed out. The only evidence I have is the 'is this HITH?' video I made.

If you watch the video in 720p, you can see it best.

I think I see a spot above her right eye???

Is this what you are referring too???

Sometimes no matter what we as responsible owners do, they end up with some kind of illness. I feel personally, that if they were kept in better conditions as babies we wouldn't have half the issues we do... I think being kept in TINY tanks at the pet store, and tiny tanks at the breeders, their immune system is compromised. On top of that you have to take into account the endless breeding and inbreeding that goes on... We are really trying to fight a losing battle...

Honestly, if you think that is HITH, and you are doing everything possible to treat and prevent this, She will be ok... it may take a while, but all you can do is keep her in the best conditions you can!

Just my 0.02!

these were the pics i had in my own "Is this HITH disease?"-thread.
that is when i learned about the sensorypits of an oscar, which are totally normal:

And the damaged bigger spots turned out to be from bumping into the decorations a bit and healed in no time...
I still see no need to worry.

It's probably being a worry wort. If I wasn't a worry wort though, then they deserve a different care taker!

Anywho, I have cared for them the same way since Nov last year. Almost a year now! I am just gonna be happy, and trust in what I have been doing.

All the fish "who are sensitive to water conditions" in my tank are perfectly happy, and have been for ages.

All smiles here.

To Noddy's point, I have tons of decorations for hiding spots in my tank. They swim through, around, up and down them all day (and probably night.)

Thanks for indulging me.
