hey guys its currently 5.04am in australia i woke up for work this morn
went had a shower came back and my O was gone i was freaking out big time
i looked on top of tank and look around tank my gf said he was there like 5 seconds ago so quickly looked around and found him laying on my external filter
he jumped out via intake out take lid and received a nice big gash above his eye
i was so so so very lucky to get him into tank befor he could have died
he is very stressed and sulking big time i dont know what spooked him but it
must have freaked him big time but fingers crossed he will be ok the gap he got threw would have been no bigger the 1" by 3" long it scared the SH@T outa me

P.S i have placed a sheet of glass over area where he escaped from so next time he will just have a very sore head but i hope his head heals fine and will never try that again

try to get some more "I got my eyes on you- hours", to see if you can find out what startled him so badly.
He'll heal just fine.

For bad waterquality may be the main reason oscars jump, or when thinking something to eat is within their reach.

I had mine doing full scale jumps just to get at a piece of ducttape, that was folded inside the lid after maintenance.
He just kept bashing the lid, until i removed the piece of tape.

i am just glad i relized he was gone my water is in tip top shape i finished water change yesterday about midday and there is nothing on lids or anything like that
but i will test this arvo when i finish work =]

We get a lot of post from people where their oscar has jumped and they have come home to find them dead on the floor

This is why some good cover glass and a proper top are a good idea when keeping oscars!!!

You where lucky the damage dosent look to bad...your gf didn't hear him jump out then???

I am glad to hear you found him before he died. I think your O will make a full recovery. keep us posted on his progress.

I have good cover but a small hole I am gettin new tank soon so that problem will be fixed very soon and he is one lucky Oscar I can say that much no my gf didn't hear him jump out not a sound she said but I am glad Yu guys think he will be ok I am just glad it wasent his eye it is so so close like 2 mm from eye but I thought quick from brooksies pics with damp cloth I ran like the wind to bathroom to get facewasher drenched in water =] thanks brooksie =]

he truly a lucky o, glad you could save him
sometimes they get spooked when we put the lights on in the middle of the night.
keep the water in the best quality, he will recover in no time

just tested my water it is perfect =]
and he is no longer 'sulking' he came running for food when i got home
and i noticed his top fin has 2 cracks and front to spines are a little damged but
he will be just fine =] =]

the smile on face is massive i am so glad
i was awake by the time this little delema happend
but he is looking like normal but sulking a lil bit still
but he probly will do for another few days after his little trip
to the great outdoors witch i am sure he wont be doing for a very long
long time i will have to buy him a lil treat for being such
a trooper and not dieing on me =]
