I was wondering is it normal for my oscar to change color. I rececntly switched him from a 30 gallon tank to a 80gl tank. He is going from a light yellow to a bright white, orange to a bright orange

Don't worry, it is quite common for fish to change colours. It could well be that the much larger tank is to the fishes liking, the colour changes that you are describing certainly don't sound worrying to me. Does the fish do it at certain times, or just any time? Sometimes when water changes are carried out, they can get a little stressed, they may change colour then

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved

I have the exact same question that JSoscar89 has, when he is feeding my little monster turns a dark black and the red areas increase in intensity. The exact same thing happens when he finds something interesting inside the tank, but when he stresses or when he sees someone new for the first time he turns an ash gray color or when he is sleeping.

You weren't doing anything else anyway…

My tiger changes colour all the time. It could be to do with stimulation like feeding or the thought of being fed I was thinking...after all Oscars live for food!

This was interesting to read. I bought the kids a little yellow commet when they had their own small tanks. After a few weeks it went black from head to tail. Recently I got a 3ft tank so that I didn't have to do 5 waterchanges on small overstocked tanks all the time and put all their coldwater fish in there. Within a week the comet had gone back to being totally yellow again. It was always healthy and eating...I had no idea what the color thing was all about or if it was normal....Sharyn

my two red oscars turn bright orange when they "yell" at each other......it lasts a few moments and they go back to their normal coloring.

Some examples of colour changing:
My tiger in the QT tank

in the new tank:

and feeling at home in the new tank:

so the colour changing is very normal, and usually displays a mood.
