So after all the work that I have done to get my water conditions in nearly great conditions Im going to be moving. The circumstances were completely unexpected [cheating spouse] and a transition is desperately in order.

SO, how do I do this without creating too much stress? I cant really take the 60 gallons of water with me. My plan is to fill the 5 gallon bucket I have with tank water when I transfer to the new place, and I was thinking of the tank removal as being the LAST thing I do so that I can immediately begin filling the tank.

Any thoughts, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about the circumstances--I would fill 2 buckets, one for the fish and another for filter media, maybe get as much substrate as is reasonable in there too...How far away are you going to be moving? (and yeah, ideally having it be the last thing done would be best).

Sorry to hear of your situation

Dont worry about taking any water...just make sure your filters are not turned off for more than a couple of hours ...you could run a battery pump into the filter to keep it going.

When you get to your new place fill the tank up but make sure you treat ALL of the water. (I recommend prime)
Also DO NOT clean your filters out in this process....look after the bacteria that's all you need to do

ADDED...Get a large container to keep your Oscar/Oscars in for a couple of days. Just make sure the filter you use on the container is mature with bacteria.
You could squeeze your current filter pads onto a smaller filter pad/pads for the container.

sorry to hear.

this is how i moved my tank. i got 3, 5gallon buckets with lids. one for the fish pluse water, one for the bio matter from the filters and one for the gravle. might need another depending on how much gravle. make sure to put as much water into each bucket. when you get to you new place set up a smaller tank like a 20 or 30 gallon with a little grave and a filter from your old tank and use hte rest in the big tank. fill the tank with water make sure to treat it and after you put the treated water in then add the gravle. the reasion i added my gravle after the water is that i wasnt going to take a chance in killing my bio that lived in the gravle. i added the water treated it a little heavy. i use stress coat and i use 1.5 tsb per 10 gallons not just 1tsb and the filters let it run at least 24 hours to help make sure that the water is treated. and then after the 24 hours place the oscar and the rest of your gravle in the tank.

when i moved my 75 gallon that is how i did it and i had ranbows, tetras, angle fish and 3 young discus and they all made it fine and didnt show signs of stress. i hope that this info help a little.

When I have moved my fish... ( And I have moved them SEVERAL times)

1.I get a BRAND NEW plastic outdoor garbage can...
2. Fill half way with water, add O's.. And others if I can. (The last time I added all o"s and Plecs, and the JD)
3. Stop Canister filter.
4. Place inlet and outlet in trash can.
5. Turn canister back on...
6. Drain tank.
7. Remove substrate
8.Move tank and stand to Truck
9. Carry fish out
10. Carry canister out.
11. Drive 20 minutes across town
12. Set stand and tank
13. Fill with Substrate
14. Fill with water add prime
15 Move Canister to tank
16. Place PISSED OFF Oscars back in tank
17. Laugh at sulking...
18. Drink alcohol as reward

I had to repeat this 6 times...

Sorry about the circumstances... I know it sucks.

The most important thing on your fish tank is the filter. So remove all decor, air pump, heater etc. Then take some water out and fill your fish moving container. Place fish in container. Then remove as much water as you can leaving enough to keep the filter running. remove the filter and keep the media wet (this is easy with as cannister). Drain rest of tank and dismantle everything. move to new place and reassemble tank and stand. Partially fill tank with enough water to have the filter running. Get filter running and place fish in tank. Then place all decor, heater etc back in tank. Refill tank

As most importantly as nickisue says, sit back and drink beer
I can't get no sleep

that sucks that your spouse made a selfish **** move.

as far as the fish. I like to use an ice chest that is completely cleaned out with hot water. Put as much water as can carry reasonably with the fish. good luck
