TOPIC: getting back on the horse

getting back on the horse 1 year, 8 months ago #111346

so i have desided sence pips passing away that i am not going to let that hold me down. i miss my little buddy but if i dont get back on that horse. i might end up back with guppies.. i realy am sick of guppies..lol..

so i have my 55 cycled, water test show all green a head. so i am going to go saturday to bob's tropicals and then to a cupple other pet stores to see if there is any one that has albino red oscars (link posted to show the kind i am talking about) or can order them for me. i am going go with one albino red and a normal red oscar. they are the two types that i like the most and that dont look tomuch like pip.

i ended up saleing the piranha to my best friend and so when he comes this weekend to get them i will have an empty 125 running. i am going to go with 3 clown loach, 2 chocolet cichlids, and 2 sevurms along side of the 2 oscars and once they are of size they will all go into the 125

i think for my 125 that would be a great mis of fish. let me know about the numbers. i dont want to over stock. i would drop the loach and the sevurms but i realy like the chocolet cichlids alot. so let me know what you all think..

Unless you have got really good filtration, I should stick to the absolute minimum for what we recommend for these tanks. Even though you can put a couple of Oscars in a 125 gallon tank, you still need very good filtration, if you haven't got it those two Oscars will really create a lot of waste and your filtration will get dirty quite quickly

Good to hear Memphis! Did the meds nuke your worm problem completely? Is There a cycle that needs to run it's course...ie do the meds kill the eggs too or do you have to wait and redose? Or are you using a totally different tank?

It's a nice feeling planning for new fish ey?

Good luck

hey shaz

all the fish that could have the worms are in a tank and all the equment i use for that tank is being soked to kill the eggs. the meds should kill the eggs that might be in the tank. but untill it has been long anuff to have a full life cycle i wont know.
with that being said

i have had my 55 cycled for about 6 weeks i havent even touch that tank with anything from the sick tank. so it should be fine. and i sold my piranha to my best friend so come saturday ill have an empty 125. so i was thinking about stocking my 55 with what i want for my 125 and once the fish get about 6 to 8 in move them all over to the 125 that i will just keep it runing with a few little fish to keep it cycled. well that is my plan.

i just got 2 of the 110 aquaclears for hte 125 and it was already running an under gravle with 2 power heads and a fluval 405. i love craigslist. i got the system and everything for like 400 about 3 months ago. my 125 will be there main home but i wantto wate till they are a little bigger then what you get in the pet stores.

what do you all think?

How are you keeping the 55g cycled, do you have some fish in there?

your suggested stocking list is too much for a 125g. The most you could get away with is 4 foot long fish and that is really pushing it. If i were you i would go with 3 foot long fish or 2 foot longer and the clown loach (you could even add 4 or SD's to that)
I can't get no sleep

I say put the Oscars in the 125 gallon from the start. your fish will love the space and it will give you the upper hand when trying to keep water quality good.

good luck

i was thinking about just putting them in the 125. was going to ask about it.

i found a localy owned pet store call "something fishy" the owner is a very nice guy that after i told him what happend to pip was more then willing to help me find just what i want in the oscars. i told him about the "blood red oscars" he is calling the people that he orders from and is going to help me find a place to get 2 of them from. i have to say out of all the different types of oscars i have seen the "blood red" are by far the most beautiful. hell i think that they are hte most beautiful fish i have ever seen..
here is a vid of one. some people are caling them blood reds and some call them super reds... so i am sure that my quest in getting 2 wont be easy.
