Curiosity has bitten me again.

I live in South Florida where there are tons of snails and lizards of all sizes. I have pondered if they are a safe food source for my oscars.

Any thoughts?
4xOscars
1xBlood Parrot
2xJDs (pair)
5xClown Loaches
1xPleco

265 Gallons (84x24x30)
36" T5 Light for shading, sunlight effects
300 Gallon rated Living Color wet-dry sump
3L of SeaChem Matrix + Bioballss, ceramic rings etc...
1xIvy for nitrate filtering

I am always looking for better ways to enhance the lives of my babies. Hit me up, let's chat about fish!

well i dont think i can see a oscar eating a lizard lol, I try to feed my oscar what he would get in the wild lol. Even though i doubt an oscar would get hikari pellets in the wild.....but no one knows . lol If there aquatic snails i wouldnt try it personnaly and its my opionion i wouldnt feed my oscar either of those but see what the other senior members think.

They are not aquatic snails. They may happen into a body of water trying to find moisture, but they are quite happy on land. They only come out during and just after it has rained.

I see some tiny tiny lizards. Some < 1" long. Babies.

Well maybe google some things on the internet to see if anyone else has tried it, if you trust it then go ahead. Like i said i wouldnt i would feed my oscars garden worms and thats it, other wise i would only feed my oscar crickets from the store and superworms other wise i dont see a need to really do that but again go ahead if u think he will be okay.

I am definitely leaning toward not doing it. It was just a thought I had. 1/2 my thoughts make me nuts so ignore that 1/2.

yu to are crazy pair lol
but in a sense lizards might have come in contact with pestaside
not by yu but your neighbour's same with snails but personaly
i wouldnt as the risk is way to high =] hope i helped =]

Re: Lizards and Snails? 1 year, 8 months ago #111534

i wouldnt do it. some reptiles when scared can release toxins that can kill what is eating it. so i would be very careful about trying the reptile thing. as far as snails i wouldnt do that either due to the chance of all the diseases that can be diven to your fish. but then again that is just my 2 cents.. lol..

I would avoid unless you know for sure that they are safe to feed to your oscars!!!!

and if you do keep them as an occasional treat
I can't get no sleep
