TOPIC: Feeding????

Feeding???? 1 year, 8 months ago #111903

Hi
I'm fairly new to Oscar keeping had mine for 2 days now and it seems pretty happy and swims around a lot but it is still very weary of me when I go near it's tank I have to sit there still for about 5 minutes until it will become near the front of the tank should this be expected. The main reason I started this topic is to ask about feeding it had not been interested in food then this morning I put 6 mini-pellet hikari floating pellets in at it went and ate 1 but by the time it had eaten it all but 1 had been attracted to my filter and were by it's casing, the other was floating towards it so my o went to eat and pulled it down into the talk and ate about half of it before it managed to float to the top and join the other pellets by the filter. My o keeps looming up towards them and goes near them but when it get close to the filter casing it freezes and swims away, what should I do as I think in wants food but is to scared to get it , should I try using sinking pellets

How big is your O ? what size pellets are you trying to feed him ?

you'll get better advice when people know the facts

Given your filter seems to be winning the race for food just drop 1 or 2 till he can beat the filter he will soon be gobbling heaps (hint don't buy big lots of food as they grow) But when he can win no more than what he can eat in 2 minutes
Oscars are gluttons and as long as you keep feeding them they will keep eating

hope that helps as a guide

If the food get stuck in a place where your baby can't reach it, it may be best to get some sinking food.
Take care, for Oscars can be very jumpy when they think or know there's food around.
One inch is a tiny one, indeed!
You're in for some fast growth in the coming months.
You will literally be able to see your O grow!

Keep spending time in front of the tank, his shyness will come to pass.

I just went out and before I left I put 4 pellets in and I have returned with only 1 by the filter and the other 3 by the looks of it eaten and I'm looking forward to watching my o grow

The problem here is not the food but a shy oscar

Its normal for an oscar to take a few days, sometimes over a week before he will be comfortable in his new home. Its good that your fish has eaten after 2 days. What you need to do is feed a little (1 pellet at a time) and if he doesnt eat it then dont put anymore in

Soon enough your oscar will get used to his new home and become a comlete pig. Take out any uneaten food. As Noddy says spend time around the tank to get him used to you

I visited the shop were I brought it from today they told me what they feed there's when I got home I added some and it ate like a pig for a whole 2 minutes as I read that is how long I should do it for twice a day

seems he dont like the 1st food you had for him. If you want him to eat that food only feed him that food. If not feed him the 2nd type

I'm going to stick with the second type as it doesn't get drown to the filter as it sinks where as the first type floated and it seems to love the second on
