first off, welcome to OFL!
adding new oscars into an existing oscar tank can become troublesome for several reasons.
most common is territorial aggression.
this will happen often due to keeping more oscars in a "small' tank.
we recommend at least 55Gl per oscar.
how big is your tank?
plus there's a big chance you might have a male oscar to start with.
in that case, adding another male will lead to fights, liplocking and other aggression and eventually death of one of the fish.
a male and a female or 2 females can live peacefully together.
The lack in difference in outward appearance between male and female oscars makes that adding a new one will allways be a guess.
rearranging the decorations, before adding a new fish may help, for the oscars will have the idea they'll have to conquer the territory all over again.
i put a 7" tiger into a 11" red's territory this year, and i consider myself lucky that it all went smooth.
They actually seemed to have formed a pair, but it's allways a risk
You may have a bad tempered oscar, and i heard enough stories of oscars killing any tankmates, time and time over again.
